Chapter 48 So It Begins

Chapter 48 So It Begins

So It Begins

'That human... unsettles me.' Near the front of the hall, the green dragon that had confronted Christopher thought with slight distaste.

His head was facing forward, but his senses allowed him to paint a clear picture of the hall and everything inside.

His attention was on Christopher, and quite frankly, it had always been since the encounter they had outside. Something about Christopher... deeply unsettled the dragon.

Naturally he was too proud to openly admit this, after all, why would a dragon be unsettled by a human?

Still, proud or not, Zephyr couldn't deny that there was something off about Christopher.

Dragons took pride in many aspects of themselves, and their instincts were part of this.

Whether it was danger or something bad in general, they had a sort of natural idea as to whether or not they could handle it.

It was usually pretty clear, so Zephyr was quite put off by the fact that his instincts simply told him to be wary, and nothing else.

And beyond his wariness, he was curious.

Dragons had an intricate bond with one another. Usually, they could feel each other's existence within a certain range. Moreover, they could also feel the general condition of each other's bodies, though stronger dragons could hide their conditions from each other.

Thus, Zephyr's interest was deeply piqued by the two younglings that accompanied Christopher. They didn't know how to hide their conditions from him yet, so he could sense them very clearly.

'How can their bloodlines be so pure? Not even our liege has a dragon bloodline so pure. Where did they come from? And more importantly. How did they come to lay their loyalty in the hands of a human? Their pride should be through the roof.' Zephyr pondered.

Even among dragons, there were those of lesser and higher purity. Those with higher bloodline purity were considered to be of higher standing in their society structure and the other way round for those with lower bloodline purity.

There were many things that came with having a higher bloodline purity, the most common being increased potential and strength at a certain level compared to those of lower bloodline purity.

If elves were considered to be blessed by Mana, then dragons were its children. They had the greatest Mana Manipulation seen out of any other race in the world, save for elemental beings like Sinestra.

And bloodline played a crucial role in this as well as the purer one's bloodline, the stronger their connection to Mana which in turn, meant greater strength. So Zephyr wasn't too surprised when he felt just how strong the twins were despite being so you.

But what he couldn't wrap his head around was the fact that two dragons with such incredible bloodline purity were willing to serve a human.

Sure, there were quite some impressive humans out there, the Emperor and his entourage were a good example.

Still, in terms of quality, they almost always fell short compared to dragons, and even other races like elves and Vampires. Relying on their sheer numbers to grant themselves a stable foothold on the world.

As such, the humans that could gain a Dragon's loyalty were few and far between. And yet this strange person managed to not only gain the loyalty of two dragons, but two dragons with Such an intense dragon bloodline that Zephyr felt like they were some sort of hidden royalty.

Initially, he was sure that Christopher was using some sort of means to control the twins. Maybe manipulate them. Sure Dragon's inherited the memories of their ancestors at birth, but they were still children and such, could be quite naive. So manipulating them wasn't out of the question.

And yet despite having been observing them this entire time, not once had the human even said much to the twins to indicate that he was using some strange means to control them.

Instead, the twins were talking with each other and the rest of their cohort with complete relaxation, showing that they were very comfortable around the other people there.

Zephyr simply couldn't believe it. Watching his kin be so amicable towards so many people he considered to be of lesser origin than him.

It was infuriating. But still, his curiosity grew. It was clear that the human was the leader among them. How was he able to bring this diverse group together and treat each other so warmly? It was... strange.

It was silent and hardly anyone noticed it. But a faint barrier had completely covered the Island.

"Who Dares!" The Island shook as Sinestra's booming voice boomed in everyone's ears.

Everyone immediately became guarded as well. It took but a moment for them to notice the problem and they all turned their gazes upwards.

This was because, other than the faint shimmering barrier, there were dozens of masked individuals floating above the group.

"Voildwalkers." Paul recognised them instantly.

Before any of the two sides could even have any exchanges, the will of the island already began to move.

In an instant, space distorted as all sorts of elemental attacks carrying horrible power erupted and fired towards the Voidwalkers.

Those looking on shuddered. The power contained in each of those attacks was simply terrifying and the majority doubted they'd be able to withstand any of them, talk less of an entire salvo.

However, none of them except Christopher knew that things wouldn't be so simple.

'Here it comes.' As he had that thought, an invisible wave suddenly went through the island at impossible speeds and washed over everyone.

The devastating elemental attacks suddenly stopped and shuddered before simply dissipating as if they had never been there.

At The same time, the eyes of the guests widened as horrified looks appeared on their faces.

Their Mana was completely drained in a moment and a feeling of weakness overtook everybody. Not even the dragons were spared as weak groans left the mouths of several people.

Paul stumbled and Sylvaris became pale while her daughter fell to a knee and wheezed. Even though one didn't exactly need Mana to function, having your Mana sapped so quickly and with such intensity would be able to incapacitate most people.

'Crap, that's a lot worse than I thought.' Christopher's vision swam as his Mana bottomed out, and to his shock, he found out that all the runes in the surrounding area were completely removed.

At the same time the runes that made up the bodies of everyone here had dimmed slightly as everyone was weakened in an instant. Well... almost everyone.

Everyone watched on in shock as several groups suddenly walked forward, not looking even the least bit perturbed by the lack of Mana in the air. Among them, the First Prince, the entire Vampire Entourage, some dwarves, a Dragon, and several of the weaker races walked forward.

"Elliot! What is the meaning of this?!" The Emperor lost his cool and shouted, Veins bulging on his neck as his son calmly walked forward.

Hearing his Father's voice, The Prince paused and looked back slightly.

"Isn't it obvious? I'm betraying you." He said calmly and floated upwards to meet the Voidwalkers along with the other traitors.

There were several curses and insults and pleas, but they all fell on deaf ears. It was clear that these traitors had been sold a long time ago and weren't going to change their minds now.

"Master." Silver tugged on Christopher's shirt and said weakly. Despite the situation, none of Christopher's subordinates were panicking as they knew they could escape at any given moment.

"I know." Christopher said calmly, despite the situation, he wasn't perturbed.

"Dreamer." Sylvaris looked at Christopher, a grim expression on her face.

"This is what you meant isn't it?" She asked and Christopher nodded.

"Yes." Christopher nodded and looked up as one of the Voidwalkers spoke.

"Those of you carrying a Legend Sword Shard, come forward if you wish to live."
