aisha and sylvaris were sitting at a table on the top of a very tall tree that allowed them to overlook the majority of the elven capital. and they weren't the only ones there.
on another seat, a beautiful woman who had bark like skin could be seen, her eyes closed as she took a sip from a cup made from very high quality wood.
when she finished, she gently placed down the cup and opened her eyes which were a beautiful verdant.
"so, it would appear that this christopher person is a lot more significant than the two of you initially thought, despite little felicia here having a vision that the fate of this world depends on him. his recent feats have solidified this point even more." she spoke and sylvaris and her daughter nodded respectfully.
"yes mother. we knew he was special. but, even then, what he displayed that day was simply unbelievable. and the fact that his subordinates singlehandedly dealt with each attack that was happening is even more astounding." sylvaris spoke respectfully, and it wasn't odd.
after all, the woman in front of them was the personification of the being every elf looked up to and was responsible for a good deal of their existence. the world tree.
she was both incredibly old, and incredibly powerful. even more powerful than sinestra. however that bangs the question, if that's the case, why did she allow such destruction to come upon her people?
well, that was because she simply couldn't.
she had vowed to nurture the elven race until she died. and that meant nurturing millions of beings in a signore region alone.
children were being born every day and it was her job to make sure they had the required life force to grow. that's because the elves actually have a pretty depressing secret.
if not for the world tree, they would be far less, and far weaker than they are currently. that's because without her nurturing, elven babies naturally have an extremely small life force, even less than human babies. as such, they die far easier than most other race infants.
because of this, a long time ago, the elven race was actually on the brink of extinction due to most of their children dying so early. that was when their ancestor managed to discover the world tree and she took pity on them. as such, she vowed to give life to them.
she'd transfer her lifeforce to each newborn and continue this process for every newly born elf.
because of this, she had a limited amount of energy to actually do things like fight. which is why even when the voidwalkers were attacking, she made no move to assist. and she would have only done so if things became too hairy. luckily though, it didn't come to that.
"so now what?" she asked and sylvaris sighed.
"his current location is unknown, but he said he'd keep in touch. so at the moment i want to rebuild the damages done and after that, gather a group of powerful elves to search for the voidwalkers and eradicate them." hearing this, the personification of the world tree, yggdrassil nodded.
"mm. don't be too hasty alright? i understand that you're seething with what they did. so am i. but it's best to heal our wounds before we think of attacking first." she advised and sylvaris nodded slowly.
however, it was at that moment that space suddenly fluctuated, and then a rift opened.
sylvaris tensed, but she felt the familiar mana signature and her shoulders relaxed. however, a moment later, she frowned again, whereas yggdrassil's expression darkened.nôv(el)b\\jnn
"fine. say we do believe you. just how would you handle that many creatures?" sylvaris asked and thanatos smirked behind his mask.
"you lot seem to have forgotten what i am." he chuckled and let his aura leak out, causing the faces of sylvaris and aisha to pale while yggdrasil's eyes narrowed dangerously.
"i'm a lich. numbers are where i excel."

christopher sat down cross-legged at the top of a tall building within the haven of the enlightened. his hands were moving through the air at incredible speed.
to an outsider, it would look like he was just doing cool tricks. but to him, he was doing something a lot more complicated than that.
norn... was easily one of the most useful items he possessed, with his dimension taking first place firmly.
her ability to observe and manipulate fate was simply too valuable to not exploit. and that's what christopher was doing right now.
he'd touch a thread of fate and read what possibility it held and weave it in a certain way. and due to his high speed thought processing, he could do multiple of these every second.
as such, he was reading many possibilities and then weaving them in a way to match his desires. that's right, christopher was weaving fate. to achieve the best outcome he could for the upcoming future.
he'd thought about that when he started, the fact that he went from a poor bum to literally weaving the fate of a significant event of a world was something insane.
and yet, he wasn't even perturbed that much. he'd gotten used to it.
'humans are weird like that.' he thought.
still, inasmuch as he was weaving fate to achieve his goals, he wasn't placing too heavy of an expectation on it. and that's for a simple reason.
the stronger a being become, the more attuned they were to the laws of the world. which allowed them to sense things differently from normal people.
it's because of that the eminence managed to sense that someone was spying on him through fate. as such, christopher decided to come up with an easy fix.
the thing was, fate was still a form of magic. aisha was a clear example as she used fate magic, though she wasn't really adept with it and kinda just had a passive attunement to it.
but christopher was different.
because if fate was magic, it was something that was a part of the world.
and if it was a part of the world, it was made of runes.
and if it was made of runes, wouldn't a certain primordial human with runic insight and an incomparably pure soul be able to something a little bit interesting?
