Chapter 85 Problem

Chapter 85 Problem

"hm, they are roughly a day ahead of us. though that distance is bound to increase with how many of us are here." belladonna, or crimson eclipse mumbled as she looked at a certain spot.

in her eyes, she could make out faint traces of mana as well as footsteps that had already faded, but she could see that the sand had been moved unnaturally.

yes, sand. because her and the human army were currently trudging through a vast desert.

the emperor nodded slightly. his armour was pristine and seemed good as new, as if the vast amounts of dust didn't apply to him.

actually, the same could be said for those stronger people. at their stage, their armour should have an anti-dirt enchantment at the very least.

"it's not as bad as i thought. ordinarily, with such a large group, we should have been a week behind them or even more." by the side, paul, aka, the water sage spoke while rubbing his chin.

the rest of the royal family along with the three family heads and their children were also there as the group seemed to be having a meeting.

titus was there as well and seemed really out of his depth.

'why am i here???' he thought while making sure to not look up. he was the weakest person here, and the only reason he was here at all was simply because he was his father's son.

"well, we have sir dreamer to thank for that, i suppose." the queen said evenly and most people nodded.

indeed, normally, transporting such a large force, especially over somewhere as dreadful as the desert was something that would require lots of preparations to meet the needs of everyone.

not to mention that the desert was filled with all sorts of powerful creatures waiting to pounce, and the fact that it was dreadfully cold in the night. transporting an army through it was something one would do if they were either desperate or dumb.

however, these people were none of those, and for a simple reason. the totem pole thru had made.

not only did it require a small amount of mana to keep active, but it was also incredibly useful outside of combat. continue your story on empire

belladonna had revealed to them that the artifact had different settings. the one that was in use previously was made simply for fighting purposes.

this setting on the other hand was designed to help large groups travel over large distances. as such, everyone was currently receiving a large boost in stamina, vitality, and durability. so the journey that should have taken significantly longer was cut down massively.

"so, lady crimson." the emperor suddenly asked.

"your master. would you be willing to tell us anything about him? well, more than you've already told us." he asked calmly and everyone looked at belladonna who seemed to consider the question.

in truth, it wasn't at all odd that they would ask about that as christopher was still an enigma in their eyes. this mysterious figure that had appeared not even three months ago somehow thwarted the plans of the voidwalkers and had his subordinates deal with attacks from void creatures that could have caused irreparable damage to the various races.

the fact that he had been 'pretending' to be at the orange rank while acting as the teacher of the water sage's son for a time made many question his goals. so since one of his subordinates was right here, they might as well ask. besides, belladonna had been quite amiable so far, so they doubted she'd react strongly to the question. the worst she could say was no.

"hmm. well, what would you like to know?" she asked after a bit and lazily crossed her legs. the movement both elegant and tantalising.

the various figures were silent for a moment before the queen spoke.

"let's just say i was meant to fight him, but very quickly realised that doing so would get me killed." then she tilted her head.

"moreover, his blood is very appealing." her voice seemed to turn a bit dreamy and everyone stared at her strangely.

'right, she's a vampire.' they all had thoughts along that line.

they were about to ask more before belladonna suddenly tilted her head, then her body language shifted.

it was very subtle, but it was there. moreover, the air around her seemed to turn... heavier.

there was no aura release of anything like that. but there was a certain danger to her now.

"well. it would appear that we have a slight issue." her tone was still playful, but there was a dangerous undertone to it.

"get everyone up. we're moving now." she ordered and stood and everyone was confused.

"what's wrong?" the emperor spoke solemnly and belladonna spared him a glance.

"the voidwalkers are craftier than we thought. they had special means to detect the legend sword shards and steal them. as we speak, they are trying to reassemble the blade." the air turned cold.

almost simultaneously, several powerful auras erupted from the people there and titus and the emperor's daughter paled from the pressure.

"how did this happen?" the queen demanded sharply and belladonna didn't even look at her.

"i already told you." she said calmly.

"we left our home almost undefended to follow you on this expedition and you mean to tell us that our efforts were for nothing?" she took a step forward and belladonna slowly turned towards her.

"i'd advise you to watch your tone." she said calmly, but a horrifying aura that instantly drowned out the ones that were up appeared.

everyone paled as their knees buckled. though strangely, titus and the emperor's daughter were unaffected.

"you should be grateful you're even being helped at all, otherwise your son wouldn't be the only one of you that died." the words made the empress grit her teeth, but any idea of retaliating died the moment it formed.

it seemed as though belladonna could crush them with her aura alone, and she seemed to realise that what she had seen against the voidwalkers was nowhere near the peak of the dreadful vampire's strength.

"now i will not repeat myself. you lot are to assemble the army and we will leave immediately." she said before walking off without turning to see if anyone followed her.

against his better judgement, titus took off after her and his siblings paled and tried to follow, but paul called them sharply.

"leave him. he's probably the only person here that can talk to her without getting us all killed." he said and straightened as the intense aura faded, allowing them to breathe again.
