Chapter 650
EP·650
After a day full of ups and downs due to an unexpected attack, I suddenly woke up on the train and sipped my coffee while looking at the rising sun.
Until yesterday, there were only broken railroad tracks and cracked ground around the area, but now the dwarves have been hammering and nailing all night, completing the preliminary work for repairs. Even though they lowered their senses to a normal level to get a good night’s sleep, they didn’t know that this much work had been done, so it was quite a bewildering sight.
I couldn’t tell if they worked all night because they thought there would be nothing to do until the train arrived anyway, but it was fun to watch. Just thinking about what purpose and use they had made it like that made time pass quickly.
Only when the sun was halfway over the horizon and I had finished drinking my coffee did the train slowly start to move. After watching it for a while, an idea suddenly came to me. I went back to my room, made another cup of coffee, and headed to the back of the train with a chair carrying a blanket.
People who saw me like that as I passed by all expressed their doubts, but soon they seemed to understand the situation and burst into laughter and gave me a slight nod. After exchanging formal greetings with them, I arrived at the back car, which was just as I had expected, turned into an open car to deal with vampires.
“Well, if you work outside until late, you won’t have the energy to put it back the way it was.”
While giggling to myself, I find a suitable cover that was blocking the vampires’ attacks until yesterday and put a chair there as a windbreak. Now, the pace is starting to pick up, but thanks to the windbreak, I can get by just by wrapping myself in a blanket.
Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy the scenery leisurely without having to stand on the edge like I did yesterday, and I smiled contentedly as I enjoyed the feeling of a late train ride.
The flowing scenery is incredibly beautiful.
Last time I looked around properly, it still felt like winter, but now it’s harder to find places where snow still remains. It’s a sight that makes me realize that time passes even as I’m being pushed here and there.
It will soon get cold again as we approach the mountain range to enter the dwarven kingdom. Originally, I was planning to sneak in by then, but as I sit comfortably in this open space and look around, I start to want to see the snowy scenery.
“What on earth are you doing in a place like this?”
Should I beg the spirits for warmth after a long time? I want to admire the beautiful nature, so wouldn’t they help me? While I was thinking about this, Ambassador Hulgen opened the door of a perfectly good train car and showed himself, peeking his head out from the other side of the windbreak and asking incredulously.
“I was looking at the scenery. It was useful.”
Ambassador Hulggen burst into laughter despite his tired face as he smiled and tapped the cover while answering his question appropriately.
“Every day is new to you.”
While doing so, he cleverly maneuvered the cover here and there, and instead of just creating a windbreak, he created a shelter.
Even a coaster!
“Wow, is it possible to change your form like this?”
Yesterday, I was surprised by the unimaginable application since it only moved with plywood of a certain standard, and when I asked, Ambassador Hullgen shrugged his shoulders and answered as if it was nothing.
“If you ask me that question, I’ll just say yes. It seems like we’re already close?”
Oh my goodness, you are so quick-witted. I smiled once along with the article that relayed Ambassador Huelgen’s words, then applied my senses in reverse to kill my hearing as much as possible and waited for a moment. The landscape that had been filled with snowfields and forests began to be covered with mountains in an instant.
And at that moment, I thought, ‘Oh no,’ the surroundings went dark and a dark tunnel swallowed the train.
“oh···?”
The tunnel was a tunnel, but the darkness was only for a moment, and countless light sources were embedded like stars in the wide pupil, so long that it was impossible to tell how long it had been.
Some of it seemed like naturally occurring luminous moss, but many were clearly man-made. Knowing the dwarves’ technology, I had an image of a common mine, but I was truly amazed at the fact that this space had no problems other than ‘noise’.
Because it was said that everything from ventilation to facility management was perfect.
“What kind of kingdom would it be like to be like this···”
Even just looking inside the tunnel is pleasing to the eye. Perhaps it is because I can vaguely feel a glimpse of modern society in the advanced technology.
The dwarven kingdom that appeared as soon as I passed through the tunnel that reminded me of the night sky boasted a level that far surpassed my imagination.
“Wow··· crazy···”
It is a well-known fact that dwarves live in caves dug in the mountains.
But since I had never even seen the actual thing in writing, I assumed that people couldn’t live without sunlight, so I lived in a place with a moderate amount of open sky, but with many dug holes.
No, the dwarves were really living in caves dug into the mountains. It was just that the scale was so huge that it was hard to understand why they were so obsessed with the mountains. Because of that, the world that should not have even a single ray of light could enter was brightly lit by a giant artificial sun floating in a place that could be called the ‘ceiling’.
But that was a wrong judgment. At first, I was amazed at the principle of its creation, but after some time, I realized that it was not magic, but a symbol of a great divinity.
It doesn’t hurt your eyes even though it’s shining as brightly as the real sun. And yet you can clearly feel all the warmth coming from there.
“How do you feel?”
I was in awe of the feeling I had when I first encountered the World Tree, and when I heard Ambassador Hulgen’s voice, I turned my head and saw that he and the captain of the guard had come over to me and were looking at me.
“That holy relic, is it actually Bazcal himself···?”
“As expected of a warrior, you recognize me right away. Yes, you are. It is the very same Bazcal furnace that has illuminated this place since the kingdom was first created long ago.”
Ambassador Hulgen shrugged his shoulders calmly and said that what he thought was an artificial sun was actually a divine sun, and he said with a smile that could be seen even through his beard.
“Welcome to the Dwarf Kingdom.”
