Chapter 125: Old Dog and New Tricks
Chapter 125: Old Dog and New Tricks
'So that's what it was!' Shye thought to himself after finally solving the mystery of how the blind kobold was able to precisely track him down.
It was...the scent of blood.
After shallowly cutting the kneepit of the kobold general, its blood stuck to the blades of his sword.
As a blind creature, although it couldn't see, its other senses like hearing and smelling were enhanced, thus, the strong scent of blood in his sword allowed the kobold general to accurately pinpoint his location.
'So it reacts when it hears a sound and when it smells blood huh?' Shye pondered as he revised the plan in his head.
Meanwhile, the kobold general started crawling on all fours, looking alarmingly chilling as it sniffed around in hopes of locating the little loathsome bastard who dared to disturb its peaceful slumber.
Finally, after a minute of sniffing around, the kobold general smelled something. It suddenly pounced toward the scent, however, its attack struck nothing but the ground again.
Before the kobold general realized what was going on, it suddenly felt pain from its other kneepit.
Naturally, the cause of this pain was Shye, who took out and equipped his spare iron greatsword for the sake of the attribute bonus from his talent, [Greatsword Meister (Rare)].
He then swung his greatswords striking nothing but air, attempting to redirect the smell of blood towards the ground a few meters away from him before the massive kobold could retaliate.
Sure enough, it charged and slashed at the ground again, giving Shye another opportunity to hack and slash at the creature's joints and nerves in hopes of weakening it.
The same battle sequence happened around six more times before the kobold general stopped falling for Shye's trick.
'Tch...It finally realized my tricks huh?' Shye thought to himself while opening yet another small vial emitting a bloody scent, purchased for 50 points from the system's store, to confirm if the kobold general already knew his tricks.
Finally, after using three large bottles of the cheap perfume, a shockingly accurate attack from the blind kobold almost severed his body in half, forcing him to use his [Dash Lv.3] again to escape.
However, that was it.
Upon looking at the blind kobold who was desperately trying to sniff around with a furious expression on its face, Shye smiled widely.
The kobold general's sense of smell...Was now impaired. Now, the only thing the kobold could rely on to locate him was sound.
Due to the strong smell of perfume, the kobold general gave up on trying to smell him and instead, perked up its ears as it desperately tried to locate him through the most subtle of sounds.
Shye calmly observed the kobold general as he carefully planned his next move, knowing that it could only detect him using its ears.
Its...ears...
Upon realizing something important, Shye almost impulsively facepalmed which would've allowed the creature to detect him.
Fortunately, he managed to stop himself from doing so, and instead, he settled with inwardly scolding himself for being so stupid.
'Its ears...Yes! It's freakin' ears! Why didn't I think of destroying its goddamned ears first?! I had eight free hits! Eight!' Shye inwardly raged as he vowed to improve his intelligence status in the future.
The battle could've been so much easier, however, getting angry right now wouldn't do him any good so he took a silent deep breath before investing ten points to intelligence.
'There...Now I should be able to make smarter decisions...Right?' Shye thought to himself as he calmly analyzed the current advantageous situation, knowing that he could not afford to blow this chance.
One clean hit from the kobold would turn the fight around so he must plan his next moves carefully and end the life of the kobold general as efficiently and safely as possible.
Shye was struggling, the kobold knew most of his tricks now and he needed something new to trick the kobold at least one more time so that he could destroy both of its ears.
