Chapter 592 - 592: Should the clothes be neatly placed to the side?
It felt like, even if Mobius had just used her own form, Kaito might not necessarily have run out at all...Watching Mobius for a long time, Lumine couldn't help thinking this all over again.
She felt that, if Kaito had known it was Mobius, he probably wouldn't have run.
Of course, the chances of actually getting to do that sort of thing would have been pretty slim either way — after all, if Kaito knew it was Mobius, he would have had to ask her where she and Miko had gone.
Oh, right...
Why hadn't Mobius just used the two of us as leverage to coerce Kaito into doing that kind of thing with her?
This thought suddenly popping into her head, Lumine couldn't help finding it strange.
After all, Mobius was already willing to use someone else's form to do that kind of thing with Kaito, so threatening Kaito into doing that kind of thing with her really ought to be even less of a problem — in any case, she didn't look like someone who paid that kind of thing much mind.
Could it be that she was worried the experience wouldn't be as good?
Turning it over and over in her head, the only conclusion Lumine could arrive at was this one.
Otherwise, she really couldn't understand why it had to be this way.
Of course, no matter how curious she was, she definitely wouldn't dare actually ask it out loud.
"It may look like us, sure — but we'd never act the way you did, right, Lumine?" At that moment Miko spoke up again, even seeming to hope that Lumine would agree with her.
But honestly, when it came to this line from Miko, Lumine really didn't dare pick up the thread.
After all, the method she had given Mobius hadn't actually worked, and if she said any more, she was afraid Mobius would have something in store for her.
Only, Miko had already opened her mouth, so Lumine had to respond one way or another — Miko was, after all, helping draw the fire away from her right now, so she really couldn't just sit there in silence.
"Yeah, we wouldn't do that kind of thing. That sort of behavior... isn't normal." After thinking it over, Lumine decided that she might as well express her agreement with Miko's point, and even threw in the bit about how acting the way Mobius had wasn't normal.
"Why isn't it normal?"
The moment she heard Lumine speak, Mobius immediately whipped her head around to stare at her, which left Lumine more than a little flustered.
Why?
Right...
Why...
As for the answer to that question, the truth was that Lumine herself didn't really know how to respond.
After all, when it came to that kind of thing, she wasn't all that practiced yet.
In any case, what she felt — really — was that if she had gone and done what Mobius had done, Kaito would absolutely have been frightened off.
"You still don't get it, even now — no wonder you had to go borrow our forms just to dupe Kaito." At this point, Miko stepped in and helped pull some of the fire off Lumine.
At this very moment, Miko was actually starting to understand why Mobius — even at the cost of having to use someone else's form — was still so set on getting close to Kaito. In all likelihood, Mobius had pulled plenty of similar — even more outrageous — stunts before, with the result that she had successfully spooked Kaito quite badly. He'd come to think of her as abnormal, and would bolt at the very sight of her.
So this time around, Mobius had probably tried to sum up what she imagined was the lesson learned: never show up in person, stay hidden the whole time, and even go so far as to impersonate the two of them, Miko and Lumine.
But even so, she had still gone right ahead and done the things she herself considered perfectly normal, exactly the way she always had — and once again, she'd ended up spooking Kaito.
Sigh...
This little girl really is, in the end, just a little girl after all...
She can't possibly have spent all those tens of thousands of years just sleeping, can she...
Or could it be that she was like that shut-in girl — holed up and hiding herself away all day long...
Watching the way the other party kept ceaselessly furrowing her brow, Miko couldn't help thinking these things.
In her eyes, Mobius didn't look the least bit like someone who had lived for tens of thousands of years; on the contrary, with that tiny little frame of hers, she was simply just a little girl.
"Cut the nonsense, you smelly fox. Since you refuse to talk, I'll just go ahead and take a look myself to see what exactly you're thinking. Don't go imagining I can't do that."
As though she had just hit upon some plan, Mobius suddenly came out with this line — only that last part made her sound rather like she was bluffing.
In response to that, Miko opened her mouth: "All right, all right, all right — I'll talk, won't that do."
In truth, Miko felt that Mobius was simply, thoroughly, bluffing — but her own aim wasn't to just sit there clutching her cards to her chest, so whether or not Mobius was bluffing, she was going to talk anyway.
"At least you know when to play along."
Seeing Miko respond like this, Mobius seemed to be in rather a good mood.
How was it that when it came to this kind of thing, Mobius came across as just a little bit dim?
Watching the way Mobius's expression shifted and changed across her face, Miko couldn't help thinking this.
From the Mobius who had originally existed only in her imagination, to the Mobius she had first met on that little island, and on to the Mobius now standing right in front of her — bit by bit, Mobius had drifted further and further from how Miko had originally pictured her.
On this point, all Miko could conclude was that, when it came to anything involving Kaito, Mobius became just a touch dim, or perhaps a touch too anxious.
"Just think about it: earlier, the first thing you did was use my form to sit yourself right down on top of Kaito, and without even asking his opinion, you'd already started yanking his pants off. That kind of behavior is obviously really strange — I certainly don't normally act like that." Under Mobius's gaze, Miko launched into her explanation, and then she went on: "And then, even after he'd obviously stopped wanting to do that kind of thing in that moment, before long you turned around and used Lumine's form to try sneakily pulling his pants down again. The whole thing wound up looking an awful lot like Lumine and I were teaming up to pull something — maybe even playing him for a fool, who knows."
"So... that's why he ran off?"
As though she were turning over the accuracy of what Miko had just said, Mobius asked this with a hint of uncertainty.
"So under those kinds of circumstances, when you then went and used Lumine's form on top of everything else to try to seduce Kaito, it only made him feel that things were even more abnormal — so he just went and stepped outside altogether."
Without saying outright whether Mobius was right or wrong, Miko just stated this in her usual offhand way.
"Then what should I do?"
After another stretch of thinking, Mobius came out with this question.
"Why, naturally you go and apologize to Kaito." Miko answered as though it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"Apologize? And how exactly do I apologize? Just come right out and say I'm sorry?"
Apparently not having expected the solution to be of this variety, Mobius asked again.
"Obviously that won't do."
Miko quickly shook her head.
No idea what kind of method Miko was talking about...
Listening quietly off to one side, Lumine was very curious about the method Miko had in mind.
And, just like Lumine, Mobius too was clearly curious — even, by the looks of it, growing impatient.
"Out with it already, stop dragging your feet."
"Right now, Kaito should still be outside. So first you go into his room, and the moment you hear the sound of him coming back, you kneel down right there at the doorway, then bow your body down all the way until your head touches the floor. Oh, and one more thing — your clothes have to be laid out neatly to the side."
Clothes laid out neatly to the side?
Why on earth would she do that?
As for everything Miko had said up to that point, Lumine could at least follow along — she just thought it a touch odd — but what on earth was this business of laying clothes out to the side supposed to mean?
"Why do the clothes have to be laid out to the side? And — is it supposed to be my clothes?"
"Of course it's your clothes — and what's more, it has to be the clothes you're wearing right on your body."
