Chapter 454 Examination
Chapter 454 Examination
One by one, William's various Talents were rendered ineffective by the Dimension. By the end, William had only his knowledge, Fitness, Magic, and the few Ascended Talents remaining. Even his Mana Dominator Talent was disabled.
To be honest, William wasn't surprised. After exploring the Velos Continent and fighting with the Andorea Faction, William realized that there were plenty of ways to counter his abilities. The System even said that their power originated from something, whether it was the World or something else.
The only thing I don't understand is why it didn't happen until now... William wondered.
The System didn't take the initiative to say anything, so William proceeded into a large examination room where a group aged between 20 and 25 were seated at individual tables. Well, group wasn't the right term because there were over two hundred students inside.
"Nice of you to show up." a stern-looking man seemingly in his forties said from the front of the room. His hands were calloused, and he looked like the definition of life's vicissitudes.
"You didn't even start yet, don't bully my potential student." Kenny walked into the room from behind William.
Almost everyone in the room recognized the Vice Principal immediately, including those who were stepping foot in Filem Academy for the first time.
Most of the students were from Excellent Families, which allowed them to attend the school, but that didn't mean they had an easy life. If anything, they were pushed even harder than normal people.
To secure a spot in the third most prestigious City in the Sightveil Plane, they had to extensively study both Cultivation and Magic theory, on top of the school's history just to convince their families that they were competent enough to attend.
Older Cultivators had many children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The powerful ones would often pick and choose which of their descendants was worth spending resources on, while the others were ignored or even exiled from the Family if their achievements weren't high enough.
It was brutal competition.
Seeing that the Vice Principal himself was willing to vouch for William, the exam proctor let the matter slide and continued his explanation of the rules. Since William was late, he even approached him and went over what had been said beforehand.
Vice Principal Kenny left while the proctor explained the rules, sending a secret hand signal to the proctor that only William seemed to notice.
The rules were simple, and there were only three of them.
Don't cheat, answer all of the questions, and pass with a score of at least eighty out of a hundred. It seemed simple in practice, but when an exam paper was handed to William containing dozens of unfamiliar terms, William broke out in a cold sweat.
System, I don't know any of this! Can you help me?
-Hmm, should I? You're the one that wanted to join the school; you should have expected this.
No, what was surprising was Juno's specific stage, which he didn't bother to hide at all. The unique fluctuations of his aura revealed that he had just reached the upper stages of the Ascension Realm.
Few could be sure, but Juno might have the highest Cultivation among the students taking the exam.
He's both a Body Cultivator and his Spirit Qi Cultivation is higher than mine. I'd love to fight, but there's no need to make any enemies, and the proctor didn't offer any benefits. William thought to himself.
Juno scanned the room slowly, his confidence overflowing as he looked for a strong target to compete with. One by one, the students averted their gaze and twiddled their thumbs. No one else wanted to be the first to fight.
William followed their example and turned his head away, pretending to count the ceiling tiles while watching Juno's every movement. He noticed a faded insignia on Juno's shoulder that represented a pair of flaming wings.
What's that, System? William paid four hundred thousand Potential Points for an answer.
-That is the symbol of the Flamerium Family. They can't compare to the Slightwing or Riverveil Families on the Slightveil Plane, but they could be considered a much smaller third power. Their influence crosses into many Mortal Realms, and they have a good relationship with the Heavens.
Flamerium? Seems familiar...
Juno was about to pass over William when he sensed something about the latter's aura. Compared to everyone else that had grown up in the Slightveil Plane, something told Juno that Will had both low Cultivation and he was originally a true mortal.
"You." Juno pointed to William. The other students simultaneously turned their heads, trying to figure out what was special about William.
They couldn't find the answer, so they guessed that Juno just wanted an easy win.
Ah... fuck. William sighed as he stood up from his seat.
The exam proctor didn't introduce William, only nodding before he adjusted the space of the room. In a few moments, he had separated William and Juno from the rest while simultaneously raising a barrier to line the edges of their battle zone.
"As you should know by now, there's no need to worry about death here. That said, I'm not a sadist and I don't want to see anyone get hurt unnecessarily. Anyone not fighting will remain outside the barrier, do you understand?" the proctor looked around the room for any objections.
He nodded, "William, Juno. Battle as you please. You will be graded on your performance, not your success."
William opened his Space Ring and reached inside for the twin Starmetal Shortswords, but a speedy bolt of Lightning struck William's hand before he could fully produce the weapon, causing him to drop it back inside the Ring. Stay connected via empire
William made another attempt to retrieve his weapon, but Juno continued to shower him with weak attacks that diverted his movement, forcing William to form an Earthen Spear with Magic.
