Chapter 239: The murderer
Chapter 239: The murderer
"The blood tribe—" Before Elora could reply, the shop started to tremble. "What’s happening?" she asked, looking at her brother in confusion.
Kadyn eyed the shop as the walls began to crumble and sighed before replying, "From today onward, there will be no magic shop."
"What?" everyone around him looked shocked beyond measure. "What happened?" they asked.
Kadyn shook his head. "This is not the time to talk. We have an enemy to defeat." He looked at his companions and went on. "I will answer all your questions after the war."
Everyone quieted down after hearing the seriousness in his voice—he took a deep breath and said, "Take all the artefacts and potions out of the shop and any other valuable thing you think might be able to help in the war."
As soon as he finished they rushed to get everything out of the shop. This was a matter of life and death. This was a war that would define their future and the survival of their world. This would decide if they would live their lives as they wanted or they would live as slaves, or they would live at all.
When the people gathered there were around two hundred of them. These people were the employees of his shop—his most loyal subordinates and friends, and all of them were rank six mages. Or you could say it was his army against what was coming, coming to destroy them.
Kadyn looked at them and curled his lips as a heroic smile manifested on his face. "Are you ready?" he asked.
"Yes!" they replied.
"Are you ready to kill?"
"Yes!" they replied, louder.
"Are you ready to die?" he asked, again.
"Yes, we are!" they replied again.
"Good," Kadyn nodded. "Let’s go."
He turned and walked towards the city walls, the crowd followed behind him. However, whoever saw them tumbled back in astonishment, they looked unstoppable, invincible. The people who saw them were left in awe of their momentum.
However, they had just walked around five hundred meters when a man appeared in front of them. He was a muscular man with short height and his hair was tied behind his back in a long braid. A dwarf. "Who are you?" asked Kadyn. He found the man a bit familiar.
"I am Helderer," said the dwarf. "An elder of Magic Council. I am also the patriarch of dwarves—"
He was just speaking when a small shadow flashed in front of him and smashed the dwarf with a hammer two times larger than itself. Helderer tried to parry the attack; however, he was still thrown in the air. Just when the small shadow was about to attack again, Kadyn shouted, "What are you doing, Melvona?"
The girl paused briefly, but when her gaze fell upon the dwarf still in the air, her face burned with sheer fury and she landed another attack on the dwarf’s body, slamming him a few hundred meters away. Immediately after a hand grasped her shoulder and a voice spoke, "What is going on?"
Melvona turned around and looked at Kadyn before throwing herself into his arms before crying loudly. Although she had become a rank-six mage, she was still just a child. He could hear pain and agony in her cries. The sorrows that she had hidden from all of them all this time.
"Alright," he patted her back gently, calming her. "Now, tell Big Brother, what happened?"
Melvona lifted her teary face and said with a broken voice, "He killed my parents and stole our most powerful artefact." And then started to sob, unable to continue any further.
In the distance, Helderer finally climbed on his feet as several shadows appeared beside him. "Damn, if it wasn’t for my defensive artefact, I might have lost my life," he muttered and wiped the dirt off his clothes.
"What happened?" asked a woman from behind him. The dwarf looked at Kali and replied in a grumpy tone, "How would I know? She attacked me without explaining anything." Helderer narrowed his beady eyes as he glared at Melvona furiously.
He had recognized the girl. However, how could he admit the shameful act that he committed to get his hand on an artefact? How could he admit he had destroyed an entire village for a mere artefact, only to realize that it was nothing special? How could he admit that a small girl was able to escape from him? He would become a laughingstock.
"Oh, you don’t know anything?" Kadyn suddenly appeared in front of a group of Magic Council elders, sneering. "Who destroyed an entire village just because you suspected they had a powerful artefact?"
"Nonsense," shouted the dwarf. "How dare you slander a Magic Council’s elder?"
"Slander?" Kadyn sneered. "Melvona, tell them the truth."
The girl nodded and began to tell how Helderer had demanded the artefact. However, when the village’s chief, Melvona’s father, refused to submit it to him as their religious sentiments were attached to the artifact, Helderer started carnage, slaughtering man and woman, young and old, even sheep and goats were not spared. The blood flew like water, painting the earth crimson.
"How—how dare you, girl," screamed the dwarf and lunged towards Melvona. His hand flashed and then fire burned over them, he was trying to finish the girl in a single attack. However, when he was just a few meters away from Melvona an invisible hand grasped him, holding him in place. He tried to struggle, tried to free himself, but to no avail.
"What are you doing?" All the elders shouted, looking at Kadyn furiously.
Kadyn curled his lips and said with an indifferent expression. "Nothing, I am just giving what he deserves." He looked down at Melvona and asked, "What do you want to do with him?"
"I want him dead," she replied with a hateful expression as she looked at the struggling figure. How could she show mercy to someone who did not show any mercy to her parents, her friends and her fellow villagers? Won’t that be the biggest injustice to them?
Kadyn nodded and then tightened his grip over the man—
"You dare, boy!" he heard shouts. But he cared little about those hypocritical people and then Helderer burst into a blood mist, scattering on the ground like a splatter of rain.
