Chapter 1629 - 1631: Definitely at Home
Xiaoxiao and her second sister-in-law from her own family went straight to Yang Xiaocui’s house.
Alu originally wanted to go along, but Xiaoxiao turned her down. If they brought Alu, it would look like they were going to question them because Li Chuntao had gone missing. Before the person was found, it was better not to make a big scene.
So they left Alu at home.
Speaking of it, Alu was full of guilt too. She’d been so anxious about her own young lady that she hadn’t even noticed whether the neighbor Yang Xiaocui had come back or not.
At this time, the front door of Yang Xiaocui’s house was tightly shut, and the yard was pitch-dark. Looked like they’d all gone to bed.
Yang Gang’s wife didn’t care about that at all and started banging hard on the gate.
Inside the house
Hearing the knocking, Yang Xiaocui was instantly scared. "Mom!"
"It’s fine, I’ll go take a look." Auntie Lan Hua said as she got up and went out.
Someone had already come knocking just a while ago, looking for the three sons of the family, saying that Li Chuntao had gone missing and they were gathering the villagers to go up the mountain to search. Her three sons were still hiding out at their in-laws’ place with their wives; there was no one at home.
After she sent that person away, she came over to her little daughter’s room to sleep.
She figured people would be searching all night and it wouldn’t be peaceful anyway, so the two of them sharing a room would be some company.
"Coming, coming, who is it!" Auntie Lan Hua called as she opened the door, and saw Yang Dong’s two sisters-in-law standing there.
These two were not easy to deal with. They were probably here because of Li Chuntao’s disappearance. She greeted them with a smile. "Oh, it’s Yang Ming’s wife and Yang Gang’s wife. What brings you two over this late at night?"
Seeing Auntie Lan Hua, Xiaoxiao spoke up. "Auntie Lan Hua, we came to check on your Xiaocui."
"What are you checking on my Xiaocui for?"
Xiaoxiao smiled as she said, "Auntie Lan Hua, you’ve heard by now that your neighbor Li Chuntao has gone missing, right?"
"Yeah, I heard. They just came to my place, said we should go up the mountain to help search. But my sons have all gone to their wives’ families, so we can’t really help much. Why, what’s that got to do with my Xiaocui?"
"Auntie Lan Hua, don’t get the wrong idea, it’s nothing like that. It’s just that Li Chuntao’s maid came to my house looking for someone, and that’s how we heard from her that your Xiaocui had taken leave because she wasn’t feeling well. My mother-in-law got worried and insisted the two of us come over to see Xiaocui. How’s your Xiaocui doing now?"
Xiaoxiao felt that when you came to "visit" someone, you needed a pretext. Dragging her mother-in-law into it was the best—her mother-in-law was soft-hearted, and putting it this way was perfectly reasonable.
"Is that so? Then thank your mother for me for thinking of our Xiaocui. Our Xiaocui’s fine, it’s just that old problem again. She’ll be okay after lying in bed for a couple days. She’s sleeping in the room right now. Sorry to trouble you two to make this trip."
Xiaoxiao could hear very clearly that Auntie Lan Hua’s meaning was obvious: they didn’t need to see Yang Xiaocui and she was in a hurry to send them away.
"All right then, as long as Xiaocui’s fine. We’ll just go back and let Mother know so she won’t worry about her."
Seeing Auntie Lan Hua close the gate, Xiaoxiao pulled her second sister-in-law away and headed for Yang Daniu’s house.
"Third sister-in-law, we still haven’t actually seen Yang Xiaocui."
"No need to. She’s definitely at home."
The two of them went over to Yang Daniu’s house. But the reaction from Yang Daniu’s family was different from Auntie Lan Hua’s. Auntie Lan Hua had said the person was at home but didn’t want to let them see her, whereas Yang Daniu’s family directly said that Yang Daniu hadn’t come back for several days.
But Yang Daniu had obviously returned today, which meant he hadn’t gone home but gone straight up the mountain.
Four people went up the mountain; three went missing, and only one came back. Something must have happened.
