Chapter 13: Soul Eater
A deep shiver traveled down Azrael's spine as he read this, and he quickly looked away from it. There was something deeply disturbing about the way the mantra had read itself into his mind. It was almost like a curse that was meant to be heard only in the darkest of places.
Azrael pulled out the sword from the sheath a little just so he could see the blade, and the black metal stared back at him. There was no reflection on the blade's surface even when Azrael stared right at it, but the edge of the blade promised a very sharp cut if Azrael dared to touch it.
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Azrael's attention was suddenly drawn toward the system tabs, and he frowned as he saw multiple notifications coming all at the same time. They were layering themselves over one another, and Azrael had to rearrange them mentally before he was capable of reading the first one.

[New Message: Congratulations!]
Congratulations, the user has struck a deal with the personification of death, Thanatos. This deal grants the user multiple benefits in exchange for the souls of all demigods and creatures that the user will slay in the future. Does the user wish to look through the various benefits? Yes/No.
...
Azrael took in a silent breath as he read through this. He already knew that he was going to be killing other demigods, but it was still a little sobering to see it displayed so obviously on a screen. It made it feel more real. Azrael chose yes in the system tab, and the system brought up another message.
...
[The user has received the Artifact [Oathkeeper: Cursed Blade of the Death God] from Thanatos]
Oathkeeper: A cursed artifact forged in the depths of the Underworld and bestowed upon the user by Thanatos himself as a pact with death. With every enemy slain, the blade drinks deep into their soul, offering them as a sacrifice made by the user towards Thanatos.
Effects of [Oathkeeper]:
-> Silence of Death: The user's feet will make no sound, and the user gains a two-rank reduction in [Aggro [Presence]] upon equipping the blade.
-> Inevitability of Death: The blade will always return to the user no matter how far away it is.
-> Immortality of Death: The user's soul has been claimed by death, therefore, unless the user suffers an attack that takes his life immediately, the user will not die from any wound or external curse.
-> Curse of Death: The blade of the underworld is a divine artifact that has shed more blood than any other weapon in existence. The souls of all the violently departed shall never rest in peace, which in turn prevents the wielder of the blade from possessing perfect health. The user is cursed by Necrosis.
The user has been granted the God Aspect [Soul Eater] by Thanatos.
Soul Eater: This is a God Aspect that allows the user to consume the soul of any demigod that he kills. The soul of the demigod is presented to Thanatos as a sacrifice, and in return, Thanatos will allow the user to consume the God Aspect held within the soul and make it his own.
Conditions at current Rank:
-> The user can only absorb God Aspects that are of the same rank or higher.
-> A God Aspect absorbed by the user will no longer undergo cultivation and will remain at the rank it was absorbed as.
...
Current God Aspect Rank: F Rank
Passive Effects of God Aspect Ranking:
->The user can only use one God Aspect at any given time. In order to use another God Aspect, the user must first deactivate the previously used one.
...
Higher Ranks will unlock more God Aspect abilties. In order to improve on the God Aspect conditions, the user must first improve the rank of his God Aspect.
...
Azrael read through everything in his system tab very quickly! He could feel his heart beating in excitement just from the thought of having a God Aspect, and as he read, Azrael's excitement didn't get any less! In fact, it kept increasing!
He could absorb more God Aspects from other demigods?
Then, doesn't that mean he could have as many God Aspects as he wanted!? Azrael was stunned by what he was seeing on the screen! He knew that Thanatos would give him a strong ability, but wasn't this too broken!? Thanatos was practically telling Azrael that he could have all the power in the world as long as he was willing to kill for it!
Shink!
Azrael felt the blade in his hand thrum in response to his emotions, and he tightened his grip on it. The question of morality came forward to Azrael's mind once more, but Azrael turned that away quickly. If morality was an option, then Azrael wouldn't have taken this blade in the first place.
