Chapter 18: Be Careful

Since Azrael already had 15 units of DE in his core as an F-rank, he needed 135 more units of DE to fill his core. So, Azrael would either need to kill nine beings with F-rank cores or any other amount of Divine Beings in the higher ranks that would help him get up to 150 DE. Only after filling it up would he be able to improve his God Aspect to the next level using the Essence in the core.

That was all Azrael was able to get off the Divine Enforcers website, and he figured he would learn more about it from his classes, so he didn't need to think about it too much.

Azrael quickly went through the morning ritual and cleaned up before heading out of the bathroom to leave it for the other boys. The other boys in the school were also Demigods, and many of them were either children with no God Aspect or children who were chosen by one of the gods of darkness.

The chances of being abandoned by your parent if you didn't have any talent were very high, especially in a world like this that exalted power above everything else. So children were always being left at the doorstep of the Divine Church by disappointed parents.

Azrael was the oldest one here, so none of the others even knew what their Divine Potential was since they hadn't yet reached sixteen years old when their God Aspect would fully manifest.

Azrael changed into uniform and grabbed his phone to look through the news for the day while sitting in bed. Azrael had thought about not going to school that day, but he shook that idea out of his head quickly.

Azrael had to make sure he was not caught by the authorities first.

And to do that, Azrael needed to go and see how the investigation about Francis and his lackeys was being carried out. There was no doubt that the authorities already knew about the killing, and if Azrael suddenly missed school on the day immediately after three students were killed, it would be like putting up a neon light signboard and broadcasting that he was the one that did it! That would be foolish!

"Hey boss, Matron said she wants to see you. Something about a call from school."

Ba-dump!

Azrael walked through the rowdy children and headed for the other end of the hall where a kind old woman was talking to another younger woman about what they were to make for lunch.

"The children need more energy since school just started. Add more rice and meat to the menu and send the request to the church for more fruits as well. Oh, Azrael, there you are. Grace, you can go on with the request. I need to have a talk with Azrael."

The younger woman nodded as she left to do as she was told by the Matron, and the Matron turned around with a smile.

Once Azrael saw that smile, he felt his nerves easing down. The Matron would not be smiling at him if she knew what he did. Azrael gave the Matron a nod and a short "Good morning," and the Matron put her hands together before carefully arranging Azrael's collar. Azrael was taller than her, so she had to look up at him, and Azrael couldn't help but feel a little happy when she spoke.

"Oh, you look so handsome, Azrael. I can't believe you're already in high school. It feels like yesterday when I was cleaning out your diapers. Hehe. Make sure you make a lot of friends, and don't let the girls over there distract you. Someone as handsome and tall as you, I'm sure the girls will try to eat you up."

The Matron had a very playful demeanor as she said all this, and Azrael just allowed her to do her thing. She pinched his cheek and finally released him after she was satisfied. Azrael spoke up with a small smile.

"Terry said you wanted to see me about school?"

The Matron clapped her hands—as if she had completely forgotten that she called Azrael here for a reason—and Azrael sighed internally. This was the one reason why Azrael didn't like the Matron. It seemed that in her old age, she had gone slightly crazy. She always jumped around discussions and interactions, and there was a childish playfulness in her tone that made all the kids in the dorm love her.

But to Azrael, this only made it more difficult for him to like her. The Matron didn't do it on purpose, but her way of looking at the world was affecting the children here. She was playful and kind to them, and there was no indication that she didn't like them. The children were going to create an outlook on life based on the way the Matron treated them, and they would think that everyone in the world was like this.

When these children went out into the real world, they were going to face a massive shock from the differences in treatment between the Matron and the rest of the world. It was what Azrael had gone through, and Azrael was sure that all the older kids had gone through the same thing as well.
