Chapter 24: Summons
The person who walked into the class was a short woman wearing high heels and large round glasses. She had on a business suit that made her look very professional, and when she turned to the class with a smile, most of the students breathed out a sigh of relief to see that she was a normal person!
The image of their homeroom teacher's blank face and terrifying words was still fresh in their minds, so it was nice to know that he was the only one like that and it wasn't something common with all the teachers! Scar just had a terrible personality!
The woman put a tablet down on the table before she put a hand on her cheek and looked around the class.
"Oh, you all are so cute. I remember when I was this young. It feels like it's been ages ago. Haha... anyway, who is Azrael Mortis?"
Ba-Dump.
For the second time that day, Azrael's heart skipped a beat when he heard his name being called, and he raised his hand as calmly as possible to signify that he was the one. The teacher nodded and then said that he was needed in the vice headmistress's office.
"Vice-headmistress Francesca needs you to come to her office right now. So you're excused. Just download the video of the class later and take a look at it on your tablet."
Azrael nodded as he grabbed his things and started to leave the class. At that moment, there were two parts of Azrael warring for dominance. Azrael knew that there could only be two reasons why he was being called to Francesca's office. The first reason was because Azrael didn't go to see her yesterday even after he was called to her office twice. Francesca was a disciplinarian unlike any other, so it must've really irritated her that Azrael ignored her for the entire day. Honestly, Azrael wished with every bone in his body that this was the reason for her calling him! It was far better than the second possible reason!
The second reason was the one that Azrael was dreading more.
Could this be about Francis?
Azrael's voice was calm as he turned to the vice-headmistress in her seat. Francesca had her hands clasped under her chin and had been talking to another woman who was seated in front of her when she turned to face Azrael.
Francesca first frowned at Azrael in irritation when she remembered that he hadn't come to see her since yesterday even though she called him, but she eventually decided that this was not as important as the current situation.
"Take a seat over there, Azrael."
Francesca pointed to the chair on the other side of her office. Azrael finally noticed that there was another student there as well. Alaster Maddison sat in one of the chairs with a deep frown on her face, and when Azrael's eyes met her own, she turned away angrily and stared at the ground. Her hands were folded, and Azrael could tell that she had not come here because she wanted to. Did they call her as well?
After Azrael sat down, the policemen standing around turned away from him as the vice-headmistress continued talking to the woman sitting opposite her. Their voices were low, and Azrael could barely pick up anything from what they were saying, but he was able to hear Francis' name a few times in their conversation, and he knew that they were talking about what happened yesterday.
Things were getting too dangerous. Azrael started to eye the room with a more critical gaze as he thought this, and he immediately started to think of how to get out of this situation if things turned south. Azrael was sure he had kept his façade perfectly, so even if the police were suspicious of him, they weren't sure. If Azrael took out one of the police officers, he would have enough time to jump out from the window to the ground floor. From there, he could run through the dorms and hide until they passed before making his way out of the school.
Azrael thought he would at least be able to have a normal school life even with his newfound powers, but it turns out that things were just not going to work out like that.
Azrael's hand started to rise as a ripple appeared in the air. The hilt of his sword began to come out, but before he could grab a hold of it, a hand touched his own, and Azrael glanced to his right to see that Maddison was making sure not to look at him. Maddison was glaring at the wall opposite her, but her hand on Azrael's hand was firm. Azrael watched her closely as she calmly shook her head at him, telling him not to do whatever he was planning, and Azrael grit his teeth and allowed his sword to float back into the Dimensional Storage.
Maddison only spoke two words.
"Trust me."
