Chapter 734: Just For Show
Chapter 734: Just For Show
"I won’t be satisfied until I can at least make it as calm as yours. The echo of your heart still adorns my walls. It stands as a reminder of the goal I am yet to attain."
Megumi did not respond to Genshi’s words. Instead, her eyes went over to a large calligraphy scroll that was hanging from the wall behind Genshi. The calligraphy scroll had the characters for death and life written on it, and it had actually been created by Megumi when she was learning swordsmanship from Genshi two years ago. That had been around the time when she began to lose her emotions, and Genshi saw calligraphy as a way for her to express herself without needing words or emotion.
When drawing calligraphy, it is expected that the artist remains as calm as possible. Do not show emotion and do not allow external stimuli to affect you. The calmer you can remain, the more sublime the calligraphy will become. And for someone like Megumi, who did not possess the ability to show emotion at all, her calligraphy came out as an undeniably beautiful piece of art. Genshi always joked that if Megumi didn’t see a future in being a Swordswoman, or if she ever grew tired of the constant battle, she could simply become a Shodo artist.

Megumi allowed the silence in the room to stretch on for a long time. She was curious about why Genshi summoned her here, but she was not expressive enough or impatient enough yet to ask her sensei such a question. Instead, she just waited and watched as Genshi finished cleaning out the brushes he used for the calligraphy and then handed them over to the woman kneeling beside him before he finally brought a knee up and rested his hand on it while turning to give Megumi his full attention. Genshi smiled slightly as he spoke up.
"I see you got more powerful. Your emotions are even more hidden now than they were only a week ago. What do you think will be the end result of this process? Do you believe you will eventually become a husk of what you once were, or maybe it will stop after getting to a certain point?"
Megumi shook her head. She really did not know, and she couldn’t answer that question even if she wanted to. There was once a time when Megumi was doing everything in her power to try and reverse the effects of her emotional losses, but after a while, she just stopped trying and instead accepted it. Now, she was only working towards being able to survive even without her emotions.
After a while, Megumi finally became impatient enough and spoke up.
Megumi hummed, and Genshi smiled at this. Megumi was one of the people who knew just how much Genshi hated the deterioration of the culture that had been going on in Japan over the past few years. It didn’t take a genius to notice that the Japanese culture was no longer as rich as it had once been, and many traditions and cultural acts that once existed were no longer being carried out. Genshi hated this, and so he went out of his way to make sure that no outside influence could use the current state of the world to try and invade or corrupt the country any further than it had already been.
The most obvious act that showed just how much Genshi did not want any foreigners in the country was how Genshi was doing everything in his power to ensure that the Vanguard guild, who were the current strongest guild in the world, could never make their way into the country.
Although he was just the director of the Japanese branch of the Superhuman Alliance, Genshi was one of the most powerful superhumans in the entire country, and he possessed political power that was equivalent to that of the president of the country. If Genshi said something would not happen and he actually went out of his way to ensure it couldn’t happen, then it was not going to happen.
Genshi had blocked the Vanguard guild at every avenue that they took to try and form an alliance with Japan. It got so bad that the Vanguard guild could no longer even get a meeting with the dignitaries of the country because of Genshi.
And now that the president had done something like this behind Genshi’s back, it was obvious that Genshi would not be happy.
But that was not what Genshi really wanted to talk about. Genshi produced another paper, and when Megumi looked at it, she saw that it was a list of countries that would be participating in the upcoming tournament. At the top of the list was America.
"From my sources outside the country, I’ve learned that the Federation of America has expressed a vested interest in the tournament, and their director even went out of his way to announce to the world that they were going to be putting forward their best fighters for the upcoming battle. They held a meeting in the American Superhuman Alliance a few days ago and it was confirmed that members of the Vanguard guild were present."
Megumi would’ve frowned if she could. Why was Genshi telling her all this? Was this tournament not just some publicity stunt the Alliance came up with a few years ago? Megumi knew that the Superhuman Alliance only did this as a way to make more money on the side, and they only put up their own agents from the various Superhuman Alliance branches to participate.
