Chapter 48 Rooftop [Part 2]
Chapter 48 Rooftop [Part 2]
On the rooftop of the Weapon Building, Arthur closed his eyes, savoring the cool breeze brushing against his face. He dipped his hands into his pockets, a small smile forming on his lips. "It must really feel good to be in love, huh?"
He decided to wait for Alex to finish talking with Tessa. In the meantime, he relaxed, letting the wind tousle his hair as he gazed at the horizon. Oblivious to the chaos that was about to unfold, Arthur sighed and sat down, scratching the back of his head. "I should probably start working on a new spell once I get to my room. My mana should have increased by now."
Suddenly, a faint thud echoed from behind him. Arthur's eyes snapped open as he turned his head instantly. His brows furrowed. 'I'm sure I just heard something.'
He slowly rose to his feet, moving as quietly as possible. 'Could it be Alex? No, he wouldn't finish talking to Tessa so soon. Besides, he wouldn't pull this kind of prank.'@@@@
Arthur stood still, listening intently. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. "Who is it?" he called out, his voice low but firm. Silence answered him.
He squinted into the darkness, his heartbeat steady but his senses on high alert. 'Maybe I was just hearing things. No one else should be here at this hour.' Yet, he kept his stance, unwilling to let his guard down completely.
Then, another gust of wind blew past him, this time stronger, chilling his skin. Arthur whirled around, his hands slipping out of his pockets. 'No, that wasn't my imagination. I felt it pass by me.'
As he stood there contemplating, a shiver ran down his spine. It wasn't from the breeze but from something else—something more sinister. His skin prickled with a sudden sense of dread. 'W...What is this? Someone's here... I can feel it.'
Arthur's eyes scanned the rooftop, and then he saw it—a pair of glowing red eyes at the far edge of the rooftop, piercing through the darkness.
His breath hitched as he instinctively took a step back. 'No... It can't be.'
Fear seized him, and he found himself backing up further until his heel touched the edge of the rooftop. He nearly lost his balance but managed to stop himself just in time, heart pounding against his ribcage.
The red eyes stared unblinkingly at him, glowing brighter as if feeding on his fear. Arthur's mind raced, struggling to find a rational explanation. 'No... This isn't happening.'
But deep down, he knew. The reality of the situation dawned on him, sending a wave of horror through his body. "No..." he muttered, his voice trembling. "It can't be."
"Oh," Alex muttered, taken aback. "That's true." He hesitated for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "I just wanted to ask if anyone was bothering you."
Tessa's smile wavered slightly, but then she reached out, taking his hands in hers. Her touch was warm and gentle. "No one is bothering me, Alex," she said, her voice soft and reassuring. "I've just been having mood swings lately."
"Right," Alex nodded, swallowing hard. "It's normal." They were so close now that he could feel her breath on his skin, and his heart raced in his chest.
'This is it,' he thought. 'This is really happening.'
Tessa wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him even closer. Alex felt like he was walking on air, his mind going blank for a moment.
Meanwhile....
