Chapter 1333 Settling on the Second Breath
Chapter 1333 Settling on the Second Breath
A day passed since the weird attack from the living dead.
Evelyn assumed control over the situation as Rex hadn't come back—he was still somewhere far away because of the lightning strike that struck him. She already checked him and gotten a reply, Rex said that it would take time for him to return.
She asked for further details but Rex didn't answer.
It was a typical behavior, Evelyn had already gotten used to him being like this.
Last night, she went over to Adhara and saw the big mutated eagle sprawled on the ground.
Adhara said that it saved her so Evelyn decided to bring it into the castle.
Having no place to place it, the wounded mutated eagle was placed underneath the bridge—along with the mutated snake, that shuddered to the corner. Several Elven healers attempted to heal the mutated eagle but there was still no progress.
Some of the city guards recognized this mutated eagle, fortunately.
It has a special connection with Rex and thus, probably the reason why it stepped in to help.
But the Elven healers reported that its beast core was pulsing with energy.
Almost as if it was about to explode.
Fearing that the mutated eagle would die, Evelyn asked more healers to come and check.
Given the opportunity to be of help to the royal pack, a lot of people came.
A crowd, regulated by Dindora and Linthia was outside of the castle, dealing with the eagle.
On the other hand, Evelyn was now sitting on her imperial throne beside the main one.
Standing beside her was Adhara and before her were a couple of city guards.
Looking at the associated guards gracefully, Evelyn began.
"I have reviewed the 'dead'. Now, recount to me the events of last night"
"Yes, Your Imperial Majesty. Last night, our fallen comrades were killed and came back to life. Once they came back alive—they started attacking anyone they crossed without exceptions, not recognizing even their friends"
"What about the cemetery? Was it thrashed?"
"My apology, but the cemetery? What about them, your Majesty?"
"Controlling the dead is the work of dark spells, unique to the Undead. So I'm asking whether those buried came back to life too"
Not a lot of Supernaturals could cast this kind of spell.
A few came to mind but considering the Undead's position, Evelyn suspected them.
"No, your Majesty. I believe the cemetery is fine"
"Then how did one of the 'dead' was able to reach near the castle?"
"Ah, right... the guard associated with that incident is with me, your Majesty"
Realizing what Evelyn was talking about, the city guard glanced to the side at another guard.
He is a man in his twenties with long dark brown hair tied to a ponytail.
Evelyn squinted her eyes, she needed to get to the bottom of this.
She didn't think that a direct attack on the city like this would be possible.
It was shocking that someone managed to strike an attack on the city like this.
'I remembered Flunra saying the ancient era is a mixture of ploys and weird methods, I could assume that this is one of those ploys. I should talk with the older generation Supernaturals, to prepare us more against the Elders of the hostile Supernatural races'
'Also, the one who did this might be the one who would bring the calamity and kill Rex'
Dreading that idea, Evelyn turned to the long-haired guard.
"Your name?"
"Dizura, your Majesty"
"I believe the one who wounded the woman was your friend, am I correct?"
"Yes, you Majesty. His name is Arkan,"
"Tell me what you saw before Arkan attacked the woman"
Upon hearing this, Dizura paused for a second, recollecting every bit of what had happened.
"Me and Arkan were stationed under Lady Nadia's commands. Arkan got wounded severely and I panicked and decided to bring him back inside, to the hospital but no one was there. I saw a crowd near the castle so I went there, carrying Arkan with me and my friend"
"So that's how you got there. And then, what happened?"
"I searched for any healers, Arkan was losing so much blood. I took my eyes off of him for a second but then I was startled by a scream. Arkan already grabbed my knife—and stabbed the woman with it"
"Anything else?"
Upon hearing this, Evelyn nodded her head, it seemed like it was not the Vampires.
She initially thought that Calidora was protecting her people but it didn't seem like it.
'Also, her position here is still shaky. Rex could still leave her once her child was born, so she would not do anything that might provoke Rex into doing that,' Evelyn pondered—this attack was too sudden, and there didn't seem to be an answer.
Nevertheless, Evelyn felt a sting in her heart from what was happening.
'I have a bad feeling about this...' She pondered uneasily.
Meanwhile, Rex's clone returned back to Gistella and Flunra after checking the city.
Since the Pack Quest, as always, offered incredible rewards, he would need to complete it.
Having many elements already, Rex didn't think of gaining a new one.
But it was offered to him like this and also a peak ultimate element, he wouldn't refuse.
Eternal Death element, the name of it conveyed that it was very strong.
Due to that, Rex went to meet with Queen Shanaela again to check the progress of the map.
Looking down at the map on the table, Rex nodded repeatedly, pleased.
"Quite fast for you to assemble this much from mere hours,"
"You flatter me, it was mostly because of you that I could create the map this fast"
Rex didn't refute her words, she was able to do this because of the teleportation formation.
"So, what do we have here?" He asked, gesturing for Queen Shanaela to explain.
"Let me explain," She said and pointed at the red dots. "All of these red dots are markers for the identified Order Beasts around our territory. As you can see, Shadow is the only one—in my kingdom. Shadow is the strongest but at least the influenced area is only small"
Moving on from there, Queen Shanaela's polished index finger pointed at another spot.
It was the Dwarven Kingdom's territory.
"Out of all, the most troubled one is the Dwarves. As mentioned—us Elves and Dwarves has no Elders anymore. Dwarves, in particular, expressed their troubles as there are five Knights around them"
Rex looked at Dwarven's territory and saw five red markers.
But out of the five, one of them was flagged.
"What does the flag mean?"
"It's the most troublesome one, like Shadow"
"Hmm..."
Analyzing the map, Rex found that he was really short on people.
Kyran, Naela, Ryze, and Giana are dealing with the situation around Dargena City.
Gistella and Flunra were stationed here to help the Elves deal with Shadow, the only one who was free was Adhara as Evelyn was needed back home as someone in charge. As for Rex, he needed to go to Iris to tackle the Tabaxi race.
He also needs to search for more Chaos Phantoms to learn about them.
Relying on Prof. K only was not ideal as the Fourthborn is the number one threat to him.
Putting it as a priority is an absolute must.
At least, until Devo finished assessing the situation in the Spirit Realm, he should do this.
Adhara could help the Dwarves but she couldn't handle five Knights.
All of them are pseudo-tenth-rank realm or perhaps even already in the tenth-rank realm.
Dealing the Order Beasts itself wasn't a priority, as most of them, were still consolidating the new power their bodies were blessed with—the problem was their minions. Adhara is strong enough to handle some minions but this much would be a little too much.
Knowing what Rex was thinking, Queen Shanaela assured.
"The Orcs are ready to send reinforcements to every other kingdom, it's not that bad"
"No, it's not enough. To handle the minions properly, we need more numbers"
It was obvious that Rex's forces lacked numbers.
Until the situation calmed down, other than the Orcs, the other kingdoms were restrained.
"What is your plan...? I'll follow your lead," Queen Shanaela said.
Rex contemplated for a second before he looked up to the sky through the gap in branches.
He saw the sun shining brightly in the sky.
His lips then curled into a smile as he thought of a way.
Since numbers were the problem, he had the perfect method to gain that number.
"The Demon Moon... it's approaching,"
