Chapter 241 241: Spider-Boss Rematch
Chapter 241 241: Spider-Boss Rematch
Zach paused at the beginning of the narrow, tunnel-like passageway that ran across the stone tower and led to the third-floor encounter area. Since jumping out of the airplane and first arriving here on this sky island, he'd made his way through this hall on quite a few occasions. But this time was different. This time...he might have just a bit of difficulty getting through.
I really did some serious damage here last night, Zach thought.
A giant chasm now spanned from the beginning of the tunnel to the end of the tunnel. Last night, during his little escapade in here, he'd inflicted massive destruction to this floor of the tower, essentially causing the bottom to fall out. The entire passage had collapsed, making return traversal extremely difficult. And it wasn't because he lacked the strength to jump from one end to the other; rather, the problem was that the ceiling was so low and angled so poorly that he might not actually have the space needed to jump and propel himself to the other end.
Likewise, he couldn't simply climb up to the next floor, either. Not because he couldn't physically do it, but because he was reasonably sure that, if he tried to "skip" a floor, he would be zapped to death or something. His first ever observation about this place was that there was a barrier that wrapped all the way around the tower, which gave off a very clear warning signal that there was an "allowed" way to climb and a "disallowed" way.
While Zach couldn't say he knew for certain that something bad would happen if he tried to jump his way up to the next floor, it certainly wasn't a risk worth taking. Otherwise, he never would've entered the tower in the first place; no, in that case, then on his very first day here, he would've just jumped up the fifty stories from the outside, landed on top of the glass oculus, and smashed through, breaking his way inside.
Phase Blink is an option, he thought, but I don't want to waste Unleashed Phase yet. I could also wait for the dungeon to reset in a few days, but...but no, I'm not doing that. I need to get out of here already! I can't spend another two weeks stuck in this place.
He chuckled as he found himself thinking about how easily Kalana could cross a gap like this. Then his chuckling halted abruptly as he remembered just how much dexterity he currently had.
Name | Zachys Calador |
Level | 33 |
EXP | 246,977/1,240,000 |
Armor Bonus | 36 |
Strength | 198 |
Dexterity | 209 |
Constitution | 172 |
Intelligence | 272 |
Speed | 160 |
Luck | 37 |
That was a lot. A whole lot. Honestly, except for his speed stat, he likely had higher stats than Kal now in every single other stat—well, except armor, of course, but that was a given since he was still essentially naked in just underwear, boots, and a helm. Thinking of which, he was really starting to miss being dressed. He felt like he'd become some kind of ancient, primitive human.
As he gazed across the tower-spanning distance between here and where he wanted to end up, he decided to change his track of thought. Rather than considering the possibility of getting across, he instead decided to consider how. And just by doing so, the mental shift actually served as a very real exertion of his dexterity; immediately, he became aware that he knew exactly how to get where he wanted to go. And it wasn't a matter of whether or not he could do it, either, but it was a matter of how. There was a certainty in it. His body knew what it had to do.
At the moment, he was holding his two large bags, one in each hand. With a quick forward thrust of his arms, he sent the bags sailing across the empty space of the tower. Each one then landed perfectly on its softest side, sliding a bit before coming to a halt across the chasm. With over 200 points into dexterity, his aim was good enough to hit an airplane at 10k feet with a wooden boomerang, and so throwing two large, suitcase-sized bags across a gap was trivial to Zach.
Now, as Zach crouched low beneath the low ceiling of this tunnel-like passageway, he did not think: he acted.
Dashing forward in a bent-over crouch, he reached the part where the floor had imploded, and then he made a short, two-inch hop off the ledge while flipping his body over so that his belly was now facing up. Then, as he began to fall, he kicked out with both boots, each striking the ledge with enough force to give him the propulsion necessary to sail backwards and all the way across, where he eventually landed on his butt and slid backwards on the stone until coming to a halt.
Upon standing up, he realized he'd damaged his underwear, as it slid off him, leaving him naked. With a sigh, he reached into one of his packs and replaced the one he lost. Not that it mattered. No one was here who could see him. Still, a lifetime of not wanting to be naked in a public, open place had become like an instinct to him, thus changing into a fresh pair became a priority.
I need to find some damn clothing, he thought.
Zach just simply hadn't considered the possibility when coming here that he'd have everything on him burned to a crisp. Of course, that was nothing compared to the loss of his girlfriend's family heirloom: the Sword of Light Amidst Darkness. Zach decided that, upon his return to Galterra, he would research where that dropped and how, and then, assuming it was still possible to acquire, he'd get another one and just sort of, you know, "pretend" it was the same one as the one he'd destroyed. It wasn't like they'd know. It could be his little secret.
Yeah, there's no way I'm ever telling Kal I broke it.
Heading into the much larger, rounded room—the one containing three Orcs, two Vixens, and two bald, staff-wielding Acolytes of the Portal—Zach decided he'd had enough of his morning warmup. He'd also grown sick and tired of this place. So he summoned a bunch of cards at random to deal with them. Thanks to his high dexterity powering his reflexes, he was able to react fast enough to capture all seven, as well as eight of the nine elite mobs on the fourth floor that came next. Afterwards, there was nothing left to do but to dismiss his cards, stuff them in one of his bags, and head up the much longer flight of steps to the fifth floor: to the boss encounter.
As Zach climbed, he was again reminded of how much more of a gap, distance wise, existed between the fourth and fifth floors than even the first and fourth combined. By his estimation, the boss was located more than halfway up to the top. This renewed his hopes that, after toppling the boss, he would be close to clearing this dungeon.
Either way, he'd packed up his camp and had brought along his bags. There was no going back.
Upon entering the fifth floor, he dropped his two packs somewhere near the entrance and then looked upwards to see the black, hairy form of the boss hanging by a thin piece of thread exactly where it had been when he and Landy had failed to kill the disgusting monster, its eight legs ending in needle-like tips.
Name | (T3) Arachnid Queen Axanamat |
HP | 5,500,000/5,500,000 |
Level | 70 |
"This isn't gonna be like last time," he said aloud as he cracked his knuckles, his neck, and then raised his hand and activated Bank and Storage. It failed, however, as he'd only just used it, and then he swore angrily at the Great Ones, or Gods, or whatever they were, for putting an ability like that on a cooldown. Why in the fuck could he not use it whenever he wanted?
This is the kind of thing Jimmy would normally bitch about, he thought, his anger dulling as a bit of amusement trickled into his emotions.
Zach, bored, sat against the wall and waited. And it made the wait seem ten times longer than it actually was. Eventually, however, he was able to daydream his way through the next fifty-or-so minutes. Now, excitement returning in a flood, he got back up to his feet, raised his hand, and activated Bank and Storage. From within, he took out an emergency escape rope—which he'd hate himself if he had to use—and tied it around his waist. Then he grabbed every single one of the cards he'd worked hard to farm. Dismissing Bank and Storage, he also grabbed the handful of cards he'd stuffed into his bag. And then, one by one, he began summoning the army he had built for himself.
Card after card, the entrance side of the encounter area became stuffed up with so many mobs that Zach had to wade through them, as it was like being in the middle of the dance floor in a crowded party. There were so many of them that he couldn't even see ahead of himself. But he was forced to pack them in tight, as he didn't want to risk aggroing the boss before he was ready. He also needed to be careful not to let any of his cards accidentally fall into the pit at the very center of the room, which would cause them to plummet all the way back down to the first floor and be useless to him.
I can't believe I'm in control of this many mobs, he thought. My gut instinct tells me that this is enough: that this is overkill. But my pessimistic side tells me I should've gotten even more.
At the moment, he had 46 Legion Portal Guardians, 30 Vixen Portal Commanders, and 26 Acolytes of the Portal. It was a combined force of 102 elite mobs. Oh, and of course, he was missing something. How could he forget? Zach summoned his mount, and his Kralzek's Beast appeared beside him, the sabertoothed cat releasing a little roar as it popped into existence. Zach climbed on its back and then drew both his rapiers.
"I'd ask you all if you're ready," he said, "but you don't really get a choice, do you?"
Zach eyed the boss. Even with over a hundred mobs under his control, this would still be an extremely risky fight—or at least it would be if not for Amplifying Surge. But this time wasn't going to be like last time. Because, unlike during their previous fight, he no longer had to rely on his cards to deal with the outrageous, obscene number of adds the boss was capable of spawning. No, because unlike then, Zach now had the benefit of being able to target every single one of them with fire, the element to which they were weakest.
His strategy this time around was both simpler as well as more complex than his improvised strategy the last time had been. As far as his cards were concerned, he would order all of them to attack the boss, and then he'd leave them alone. He wasn't going to micro-manage them. He was going to just "set and forget." Given enough time, they would absolutely be able to kill the boss—even if a few of them were crushed to death or killed by one of the boss's other attacks in the process.
And as for himself? He was assigning himself the sole responsibility of dealing with the adds.
Tightening his grip on his sword and his spell-sword, Zach released a deep breath he'd been holding. "Okay, here we go," he said aloud. "We're winning this time." Zach mentally ordered his cards to let out a cheer. They didn't. He sighed. He wished he could control them to the extent that he could make them speak. After all, they clearly could, as Landy had been able to make them form speech. Also, they occasionally spoke pre-determined lines every now and again, too.
"Fine, I'll cheer for all of you. Rahh," he said unenthusiastically, mimicking the dynamic of an amped-up crowd of excited warriors. "Rahh. Whatever, you guys suck."
I think I've been in isolation for too long.
Before starting, there was one last thing Zach needed to do. It was something he'd forgotten, actually, and he only just recalled right now in the moment before pulling the T3 arachnid.
Last night, just before passing out, Zach had unlocked a new ability called Phase Step. But he'd forgotten to check what it actually does. He figured now was as good a time as any, and so, with that in mind, he brought up the ability's information.
UNLEASHED Ability (UNIQUE) | Phase Step |
Usage Cost: | 4:00 |
Cooldown: | 120 seconds |
Range: | N/A |
Description | Can only be used while Unleashed Phase is active with a Phase Level >=2
User partially steps into sub-dimensional space, rendering the user incorporeal for 0.5 seconds. During this time, all hostile and beneficial spells and abilities will miss. All ticks of terrain-based, or area-of-effect spells and abilities will also miss. Does not apply to ticks of poisons or other DOT effects and curses that have already been applied. Activating Phase Step also cleanses all roots, slows, and stuns applied to the user, but does not remove sleeps, mezzes, blinds, charms, silences, and other forms of crowd control. |
Zach read the ability over twice just to be safe, but he was fairly sure he got the gist of it the first time. And he was both impressed but also somewhat deflated. He could definitely see why this wasn't a Legendary Unique. Because, although the ability was powerful and useful, it had a two-minute cooldown and cost a disproportionately high 4 minutes of time in order to activate.
Having said that, it was clearly a lifesaver. Assuming he was reading the ability correctly—and he was fairly sure that he was—this ability was basically guaranteed to save his life in an absolute jam. If, for example, a sword was about to decapitate him and he had no way of blocking, blinking, or getting out of the way, he could use this and "step" out of it, or however it worked.
Still, he thought, I'd usually have way better options. Oh well. I'd still rather have it as an option than not have it.
At any rate, eager to begin, Zach dismissed the ability information and activated Unleashed Phase. But first, he activated Phase Reset, as it hadn't been a full twenty-four hours since he'd last used the ability. Entering with a Phase Level of 1, his hands and feet began to release an impossibly black smoke, his body began to take on a dull glow, and lastly, the occasional, flickering ember leaped up off his palm, rising a few inches into the air before dropping and fading away.
Pointing his Primordial Void Blade forward while still mounted atop his Kralzek's Beast, he shouted out, "Army of Zach! Charge!"
And finally, he got the reply he wanted.
"Krest zencht harganar!" shouted an Orc.
"Krest zencht harganar!" shouted another.
The entire encounter area filled with the sound of roaring, angry Orcs, who released their battle cries mostly in unison as 30 of the 46 rushed forward at full speed while a shocking 16 of them began chanting in Orcish, clearly winding up their ultimate, super-deadly fireball spell. That was actually really fortunate for Zach. He'd hoped at least 2 or 3 would use the fireball. But 16 of them? That was awesome! He couldn't believe his luck.
At the same time, the healers, lacking anything so far to heal, began casting their golden balls of light while the Vixens—all but two—cast either an icicle-based, direct-damaging attack or their CC, which unfortunately, the boss was immune to.
And all throughout, Zach was ready, waiting, and anticipating. He remembered exactly how this fight worked. He knew exactly what would happen. The boss could spit poison. It could fear them. It could summon a great many adds. It could jump up and then pounce down, crushing anything in its path. It was an incredibly dangerous mob, and Zach was ready to react on a moment's notice!
Don't be nervous, he told himself. Slow your breathing. You're getting too worked up.
It was true: he was. And not because he feared death, but because he feared failure. He feared the crippling feeling of disappointment and the lack of motivation he'd have if he lost all his cards yet again and had to start from scratch. Of course, death was also a possibility here. But the most likely outcome of a defeat—assuming he was quick to use his rope—would be leaving his two packs here and having to fight his way back with no cards and no food.

But at least things were starting off okay. Actually...quite a bit better than just okay.
The damage numbers started coming in, aggro was pulled, and—wow! Whoah! Holy shit. Okay, this was way more intense than the last time, which made sense, because he'd brought four times the number of cards. But Gods-be-damned, this was on a whole new level. It really did look like he had an entire raid of adventurers with him.
The boss fight began with a dazzling display of golden lights, as 26 of the golden orbs—one from each of the Acolytes—appeared above the head of the hanging boss and then crashed down on top of it all at once, causing it to take an absolute slew of damage, as each hit for between 5- and 8-thousand damage.

On and on.
And then the fireballs slammed into the boss in groups of two or three at a time, but overall, they all hit within two or three seconds. All sixteen found their mark, and all sixteen exploded on the boss, which was extremely weak to fire and suffered anywhere from 100 to 150k damage per blast. And just like last time, it also caused the thread it was hanging from to burn up such that it plopped down onto its belly with a loud plop.

The icicles also hurt, and though the Vixen Portal Commanders were far more magically inclined than the Orcish elites, the boss's weakness was to fire, not ice. If anything, it might've been a bit resistant to ice and cold.

Still in the opening 5 seconds of the fight, as the first, introductory round of magic hammered the big, fat spider, the sound of a stampede came from Zach's left and right as this was followed up by the 30 charging Orcish elites, who all began slicing away at it while more icicles that hit for around 15k joined their dual-wielded axes in putting out an absolute slew of damage. Each of them was hitting for around 80k per slash. A second round of golden orbs filled the air as well, lighting up the entire room—and all before the boss had even taken a single action yet.
Because these really were just the opening seconds of the battle, Zach knew not to get too complacent despite how well things were going, as he'd done extremely well during the opening last time as well. It was only once the spider had actually begun moving that such serious problems arose; indeed, that was when the risk to Zach's life would be at its greatest. That was when Zach would be forced to use everything he'd learned. That was when he'd be forced to send out a volley of AOE fire magic or perhaps even Phase Slash if it was warranted. And all while he could die within a second if he was careless or the boss was permitted to pounce on him. Or worse, if it pounced on him while he was feared and couldn't control his body.
"Here come the adds!" Zach shouted as a massive number of eggs began popping out of its sac as it at last moved. For just a few more seconds, it remained stationary and continued to tank the 30 vicious Orcs, and then it leapt directly upwards, nearly reaching the ceiling as eggs rained down over the entire area. Far more than last time, too. There had to be at least two hundred fifty of them. The eggs hatched within seconds, too. This was it. This was the true start of the battle.
Right here.
Right now.
As more fireballs, golden orbs, and ice magic assaulted the boss—even while midair—Zach knew that the true battle was only first beginning.
This was the point at which he would finally prove to this Gods-be-damned tower that he was ready to proceed. That he, Zachys Calador, had learned from his mistakes and was finally prepared to—

Zach croaked, then shouted. "Wait, what?"
He almost fell off his mount, as the shock of what he saw hit him like a physical projectile. The boss. It was...it was dead. Its adds, having only just hatched, rolled over and died immediately, causing a dizzying number of +3000xp to surround him on all sides. And then the spider began to writhe and give off steam.
And all of this took place in a matter of mere seconds. It had only been seconds since the Acolytes pulled the boss. Literally just seconds!
So, there was no way this could be real. Had he seriously just killed the boss? He didn't even do anything yet! He didn't even fight! His Unleashed Phase was only just starting!
Unleashed Phase Duration | 14:45 Remaining |
I guess having a hundred elite mobs attack it all at once really was overkill, Zach thought. I might've overthought this boss a little too much. I let it get into my head.
"SSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" the spider-boss hissed as it continued to give off smoke. And then it exploded with a loud pop, sending out disgusting black goop all over everyone and everything. Zach groaned as it got on his face and in his eyes. But fortunately, it vanished without needing to be wiped off, something that rarely happened with mob blood.
Something then caught Zach's eyes. Or rather, many somethings. Falling down near the ceiling, as though blasted up after the pop, were a bunch of shining lights. As in a lot. Like a real lot. And Zach gasped in rapturous delight as he saw that several of them were golden, indicating Legendary Rarity loot. There were even a number of purples—Epic Rare—and maybe 20 or 30 blues. No Artifact-Quality, but Zach barely cared. Not when so many golden coins were now also pouring down over him: to the extent that they were actually accumulating in spots and piling up several inches high.
"Yes!" Zach cried, raising his two blades. "Yes! Yes! Something went my way for once!" Zach whipped his head to the right, where the spider-boss was now vanishing away into thin air, and his surprise doubled. As the loot continued falling, Zach saw something so incredible that it made everything else that'd just transpired, including the shower of loot, feel irrelevant.
+8,052,000xp
Even while staring at the number, it took his brain a few seconds to process what he was seeing. And only after the number started to fade did he recall that, unlike with mobs—even elite mobs—pets and minions did not reduce the amount of xp granted from a boss. Only other adventurers did that. And since he was the only adventurer here, and he had just essentially solo-killed the boss...

Ice Spear III Acquired! |
Okay, so...
Zach exhaled to calm himself. That was a lot to take in. Gods, there was so much damned treasure everywhere. More than the amount that he could even store in his box. No wonder Jimmy was always throwing so much shit away or giving things away for free. And no wonder he'd managed to level faster than anyone but an extremely determined Elf: soloing bosses gave massive xp!
What Zach needed to do right now was just be calm and take things one at a time.
First off: his level-ups. They were decent, but he'd acquired three new abilities, one of which he was already familiar with, as it was an extremely common spell: Ice Spear III. It was a Medium-high Exertion Ability that surrounded the target from three sides with spears made of ice and then ran the target through. Each spear initially did physical piercing damage, but then each spear would explode, dealing magical ice damage. It was a good, if not extremely common spell.
It would also go really well with the ability on his rapier, as that lowered cold and ice resistance. And it could probably be used with Amplifying Surge, too. So, yeah, it was a good spell to have.
With that, he turned his attention to his other two abilities, and these really excited him, though he wasn't so sure about their names. Regardless, he'd finally gotten not one, but two more Legendary Uniques! And while he'd gotten an "okay" amount of points into some of his stats from those three levels, he hadn't really raised the bar in any significant way, so there was nothing exciting to him on that front. But getting another two Legendary Unique abilities? Now that he was extremely stoked to see.
Practically shivering with anticipation, he brought the information on the first of these eerily named abilities forward.

"Okay, let's...yeah, let's put that one away and never look at it or think about it again," Zach said to himself as he hurriedly dismissed the ability, removed it from his various custom displays, and added a filter so that it never appeared before him ever again—kind of like what he'd done with Doomsday Slash I.
"Just move on to the next one," he said. "Because that last one doesn't exist to me. Nope. Okay, let's see what we got."

Zach whistled. "Okay," he said, clapping his hands together. "Let's just go ahead and get that one on out of there." He hurriedly dismissed the ability. Then he forcibly clamped down on his brain, which was already trying to think about it. He refused. He refused! Gods-dammit, he refused! He shut off his mind. He refused to think about it. These abilities were so fucked-up that he wasn't even sure he'd be able to tell his therapist, assuming Jascaila was even still alive out there somewhere.
If he really wanted to, he could stand there amid all this loot and suffer from existential dread and feelings of uncertainty for the next hour, day, or even week or two. But he decided he had had enough of doing that whenever something weird or strange happened with his levels or his abilities. Put simply, he didn't know or understand why things like this happened, but unfortunately, they did. So unless he wanted to spend the rest of his life crippled with insecurity every time something like this popped up, it was best to just flick his wrist at the screen dismissively and pretend it didn't exist and that he didn't have it. As far as he was concerned, level-34 had been a shitty level up with minimal stat gains. Nothing else.
Levels 35 and 36 were better, though.
And now, he thought greedily as he spun around full circle. Loot!
There was just so much of it. To the extent that he finally, truly understood why Jimmy not only didn't keep everything that dropped, but often didn't bother to look at it, either. There was enough here for a massive raiding group! But before he touched the loot, he began by sorting all the coins into neat piles for when Bank and Storage came off cooldown. And there was so much here that doing so actually took nearly an hour; by the time he was done, he had already called upon Bank and Storage, and now he was shoveling coins into his bank. In total, he'd looted a jaw-dropping 16,221,441G.
He was rich again. He'd spent so much money at Landy's Item Shop, but now he was rich again!
With that done, he turned his attention next to the loot that had dropped. And one thing became immediately clear: no matter what, he was finally going to stop being naked. He really had his pick here, too, didn't he? There were cloth armor sets, leather sets, and even plate and chainmail. Of course, the rarity mattered to him more than the type of set. He didn't even bother looking at all the common junk. There were common and uncommon maces, staves, swords, shields, bows, etc. All of it shined a white or green light, and all of it was destined to end up as trash littering this floor until the dungeon reset in a few days.
I don't even want to keep the rares, he thought, surprising himself. Even amid all his greed, he realized that there was just too much here to keep. And so, he focused exclusively on the purple—Epic Rare—and golden—Legendary Rare—items that had dropped, of which there were 6 and 3, respectively.
For the Legendary Rare items, Zach had earned a chest piece, leggings, and gloves. For the purples, the boss had left him with two chest pieces, two gloves, one pair of leggings, a bow, and a flail.
Flails are such lame weapons, he thought. Then he laughed as he knew that flail-users got so pissed off when you insulted that weapon. There were very few of them, but they were out there, and they loved those damn things. Kind of like Trelvor and his stupid little flute. Eh, whatever. Maybe they had their uses, but Zach just thought flails were so uncool. At least when compared to swords, daggers, axes, etc.
Why would I get an ability like that? I'd never use it. I wouldn't. The Gods know I wouldn't. That's genocide.
With excitement in his heart, Zach organized the armor that had dropped. It looked like the legendary pieces were all plate and had bonuses to strength and constitution, whereas the Epic Rares were cloth—likely more comfortable, too—and meant for spellcasters. Part of Zach was therefore tempted to wear the spellcaster equipment. Especially since he had a spell-blade now and two different spells he could use.
That would be genocide. The worst thing you can do.
But then he thought about how many times he'd lost a hand or a foot or had gotten burned alive or had a piece of his actual ass bitten off. Also, the legendary gear was, well, legendary and just way better overall. So it didn't make sense to wear the cloth armor. He'd chuck that and the bow in his box—and leave the flail. Or would he? It was Epic Rare, after all. You know what? Okay, fine, he'd take the fucking flail. He'd also take a few Rares at random just "cause." Also, he liked the lightning-esque pattern on a Rare dagger that had dropped. It looked cool. It got to stay. He put it in his box. And you know what? It wasn't every day that sunglasses dropped. They were garbage in terms of stats, but...he had room. Why not?
What problem could an ability like that solve? There's nothing. Nothing in this world could ever justify it. So why does it exist? Why do either of them exist?
Having made his choice, Zach decided to slip into his new armor. Gods, it was going to feel so Gods-be-damned good to be dressed again. He had been walking around in his underwear for so long that he felt like a hobo. But still...this really was a bit much. Too much, actually.
Zach really wasn't a "plate-armor" kind of guy. It was showy and flashy in a way that just didn't feel like him, especially this set in particular. And sure, his last true armor set—the one he'd given to Tyson almost a year ago—was also kind of showy in its own sort of way, at least that one had had more of a menacing, all-black assassin kind of look that Zach thought was cool. But this? This was just outrageous. Yes, it did look cool, and it matched the boots that he'd found, and yes, it went well with the helm. But Gods! The chest piece had a fucking cape attached to it that couldn't be removed. A cape!
I don't want these abilities.
On the flipside, the pieces also came with undergarments designed clearly for comfort. Zach had seen this happen before with other items in the adventuring world. You weren't required to wear them, and they probably weren't even considered "adventuring world" items despite dropping with their respective pieces. They were ordinary garments that were simply "recommended" to be worn underneath. But since he had nothing else, he was obviously going to slip into them as well.
I DON'T WANT TO EXTERMINATE PEOPLE!
"Gods, I must look so ridiculous right now," Zach said with a laugh as he spent almost ten minutes getting into his new equipment. It wasn't as simple as putting on something that was cloth. But he could feel himself becoming tougher with each piece of armor.
"I can't believe I'm going to be walking around with a cape," he said with a sigh. "This is just so, so, so not me."
I DON'T TRUST MYSELF!
At least it did actually feel good to wear these three pieces. He felt whole again. He wasn't naked anymore—or almost naked. He squeezed his gauntleted fists. He still had complete mobility and use of his fingers.
With everything on, he took one last look at his new equipment.

Zach's mouth fell slightly upon reading this one, because it just said "HP." That was like a blank check. He knew from Lienne and other healers that healing abilities almost never referred to or used the term "HP." Especially since certain healing spells only worked with certain things to a certain point. If you were too injured, they did nothing unless they were of a higher tier, and even then, some injuries were so severe that they required a stone. And even if they were capable of helping, it still had to be injury-matched.
Lienne's healing, for example, could only help with lacerations, cuts, etc. She could not heal a broken arm or stop a concussion.
But this item...this item used the term "HP." That was likely why it was a gold rarity—a Legendary Rare. Because it would be like using slightly less than half a Light Stone.
Greedily, Zach realized he could literally open up an entire doctor's office and charge rich and terminally ill people millions of gold by having them wear this item and then use the ability on it. He could have like 4 patients a day, and each patient would get to use it once.
"I bet no one's ever thought to do that before!"

This one was also good, but the ability was a proc based on chance, and his luck stat wasn't exactly great right now, although, overall, his stats—especially his armor—had gone up a lot with these three pieces on. Granted, Unleashed Phase with a Phase Level of 1 was boosting him, too. Still, what he saw pleased him. He nodded to himself and then grabbed his bags, picked them up, and went into the large, waiting staircase that had opened up for him upon the spider's defeat.
He just hoped he didn't look too ridiculous with a cape.
