Chapter 1709: Taking All the Candles
Chapter 1709: Taking All the Candles
The ancient-costumed Ghost realized that no matter how much she shouted, the two were already close to three candles. Forced by the situation, she could only tell the truth: "Their spiritual bodies are trapped in the candles. If you rashly touch the candles and the flames go out, they will be trapped forever."
"Oh." Little Taotie couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge her.
Little Taotie carefully held up one candle, watching as the flame flickered gently, as if greeting him.
"Brother, is it you?" Little Taotie seemed to see a flower through the flame, the kind that one of the three brothers wore on his head.
The flame swayed gently again, seeming to respond to Little Taotie’s inquiry.
Little Taotie protected the flame and carefully placed it into the Horse-Faced Bell that contained no dry branches, then picked up the second candle.
Seeing the candles being taken away smoothly, the ancient-costumed Ghost’s face twisted in horror: "You won’t be able to leave, the Ancient Pagoda won’t let you out!"
"The Ancient Pagoda won’t let us out? Has it become sentient?" Feng Qi frowned.
The ancient-costumed Ghost’s smile was eerie, her eyes filled with a cold aura, "Since you seek death, I won’t play with you any longer."
Feng Qi tried to stop her but was utterly helpless. Both sides were spiritual bodies, and with the Ghost intent on leaving, especially since this was her territory, Feng Qi could only watch as she dodged his hands and disappeared at the stairwell.
"Should we chase after her?" Feng Qi asked.
Hua Jinyan shook his head, "No need. Our purpose here is for the three colleagues; we only need to take three candles."
Just as Little Taotie was about to pick up the third candle, the ground started shaking violently, and the entire tower seemed to sway, with a feeling of it tilting...
"Is it about to collapse?" Little Taotie protected the flame of the candle, which seemed on the verge of going out.
Hua Jinyan: "Quickly gather the candles, we need to leave here."
Little Taotie had just safely stored the third candle in the Horse-Faced Bell and breathed a sigh of relief when the rows of candles before her began extinguishing one by one.
Those candles likely also trapped spiritual bodies, but at this moment, they were extinguishing rapidly.
Little Taotie’s heart sank, and she hurried forward to save the candles.
"What are you doing? We need to get out of here quickly!" Hua Jinyan urgently grasped her hand.
Little Taotie shook her head vigorously, "We can’t just leave like this, regardless of whether what the ancient-costumed Ghost said is true; saving even one candle counts as saving something!"
The ancient-costumed Ghost had said that spiritual bodies were trapped in the candles, and once the flame went out, they would be trapped forever.
Originally, they were burning well, and the arrival of herself and Hua Jinyan put them in danger of extinguishing; they couldn’t just leave like that.
Little Taotie frantically gathered all the candles, placing even those already extinguished into the Horse-Faced Bell, reasoning that if spiritual bodies were trapped, even if the flames went out, there must be another way to free them, it couldn’t be impossible.
Little Taotie’s actions seemed to have angered the Ancient Pagoda, which previously hadn’t posed a threat to her. Now it was determined to kill her, as stones larger than her began falling from the sky, aimed straight to bury her alive.
Little Taotie moved like the most agile swallow, dodging them, and when it became difficult to evade, she leaped gracefully, scaling walls and leaping across rooftops. In the end, amid the ruins, the little girl was unharmed.
Hua Jinyan stood where he was, perfectly fine, revealing that the Ancient Pagoda’s attacks were selective.
