Chapter 458 Learn Today, Be Better Tomorrow
There were only four students left to test for the final exam, but the audience didn't care about them. Compared to William and the proctor's mini battle, the remaining four were just ants in the grass— you could step on them and no one would notice.
The four students quickly cycled through, but the proctor wasn't able to find anything wrong with them even after a long time. He wasn't naive to think that he had cleared out all the suspicious individuals, but it was good enough.
The rest was on the Principal, Vice Principal, and the professors.
The exam proctor took an hour to grade the written tests from the first exam, then organized the scores on a few identical sheets of paper and hung them on the wall. There was no way in hell that he would read off two hundred names.
William wasn't polite and stepped forward first, reading through the top ten to find his name.
"1. Yuhe Slightwing"
"2. Odessa NL"
"3. Gerwin Finst"
"4. Mikaela Mirov"
"5. Lute NL"
"6. William NL"
"7. Shye Lumina"
"8. Wonder Slightwing"
"9. Fero Slightwing"
"10. Juno Flamerium"
-System Quest completed. +5 Ascended Points.
Sixth place, not bad. William nodded in satisfaction while his number of Ascended Points increased to 9. Since each Ascended Point was worth one billion Potential Points, William technically had nine billion Points!
At the end of the week, he might be able to go on a spending spree!
No one said a word, but some of the students cast cold glances at the unconscious boy. It was shameful to have someone like him in their future classes.
"Alright then. Good." the proctor stepped in front of the score sheets and gathered them in a neat stack. He walked with them to the front of the room and held the sheets directly in front of him, then cast a simple Fire Spell to incinerate the scores into a crisp.
The students were too afraid to say anything, but their eyes widened in shock as all of their hard work was eliminated in an instant. At the front, the proctor remained perfectly calm, waiting until the last ember was gone.
"Does anyone understand why I did that?" he asked.
Juno raised his hand, "Because we all failed?"
The proctor almost laughed at that moment, but he stifled it with a cough. "Why would I bother grading your tests if it meant nothing?"
The room was silent for a long time before the proctor decided to answer, "There are multiple reasons, and you can't find one? You're all worse than I thought."
The students were slightly hurt by the proctor's words, but he didn't give anyone time to try and answer. "Flames, envelop my targets."
A wall of flames rose from all sides of the room, setting the desks and chairs ablaze while slowly closing in on the group. At first, the students were caught off guard by the sudden Law-enhanced Spell, but their surprise shifted to fear as their clothing started to smolder.
The proctor didn't let up and controlled the wall of flames to close in on the group, forcing the students to mobilize their Mana and defend themselves as best as possible.
It was useless, though, and the students quickly realized it. There were only two ways to defeat someone that had comprehended a Primary Law: counter it with another Primary Law or use overwhelming power to suppress everything.
The proctor was at least in the Deity Realm, possibly higher. Compared to Ascension Realm students, he was an insurmountable obstacle that could not be overcome easily. Those on the outside were killed in a few moments, reappearing a few meters away and surrounded by a thin veil of light that protected them from being killed a second time.
"No matter how talented you think you are. No matter how impressive your combat power, or how unique your innate abilities, you need time to grow. In the face of overwhelming strength, you are nothing."
Another group of students were incinerated and the flames edged ever closer to William, the heat more intense than even the core of the World Efretta.
"Your scores today had one meaning, to determine whether you did or did not meet the entrance requirements. Ranks such as top ten, top five, top three, and top one... they do not matter.
The only score that matters will be the one you receive during your final exams. Until then, work hard and surpass those that might have ranked above you today."
The flames reached the center of the group, where only William and four others were left standing. Just before William's cloak caught fire, the proctor waved his hand and dispersed the flames, considering his message sent.
"Learn today and be better tomorrow. That is our motto. Welcome to Filem Academy."
