Chapter 459 First Day
Chapter 459 First Day
Millions of kilometers away, on the opposite side of the Slightveil Plane.
A group of men with varying ages were gathered around a giant table that spanned almost five hundred square meters. To many, this scale could hardly be considered a table anymore.
Hundreds of tiny figurines were placed on its surface, occupying various terrain types that included a silver plain, dozens of sparse lakes, and even a giant glacier near groups of floating ice spikes.
"Family Head, here is the most recent layout of the Slightwing Family's forces. Compared to last decade, they have focused mostly on developing new minor cities near Treymon." one of the men said while pointing towards a larger city figurine at the base of the glacier. Enjoy new tales from empire
The Family Head, known only as Juras Riverveil and sporting a set of robes with a lifelike flowing river symbol above his heart, nodded. He asked, "What is their aim?"
"We assess the Slightwing Family wants to eliminate the presence of Magical Beasts in the area. If they're successful, they should be able to protect the younger generation while they climb the Frozen Throne."
Juras Riverveil heaved a sigh. "So that's their plan, huh?" he looked off in a random direction while muttering to himself, "Brother Ramone, you've become craftier..."
"Family Head, I'd also like to note that most of our spies sent into the schools have been captured or killed. In combination with previous years, there are only about a dozen spies attending each of the three major schools.
As it stands, sending more spies will be fruitless. They've even convinced the Master of Souls to become an exam proctor. Some even say the Master of Souls has accepted another position within the school." the subordinate knew that omitting bad news would upset his Family Head, so he didn't dare to skip anything.
"Even the Master of Souls? They're really going all out! Do they think they've found a candidate to win the Competition this year?" Juras couldn't explain their actions otherwise.
The Master of Souls was a ruthless fellow, well-known among the older generation for crippling some of the strongest Cultivators on the Slightveil Plane. He didn't care about money or fame, nor did he usually choose sides between the Slightwing and Riverveil Factions.
Over three hundred years ago, the Master of Souls had even disappeared, leading the younger generation to forget about his accomplishments while some of the older ones wondered if he had died.
January 1st, 2028. Six days after the Filem Academy entrance exam, and one day until the System unlocked many of its functions.
-Entering the Filem Academy's dimension. The usual Talents will be unavailable until you leave.
-Available Talents are: All Magic Affinities, Weapons Master, [Ascended] Recovery (5% effectiveness), [Ascended] Cultivation (5% effectiveness), Bodyguard, Fitness, Jack Of All Trades, and all Resistance Talents.
The System condensed the previous list of messages into two groups, allowing William to see what he could and couldn't use. Despite losing some of William's most useful Talents, he was quite satisfied with the current outcome.
William wanted to ask why his two Ascended Talents were only five percent effective, but he knew the System wouldn't answer. It had already told him that he needed to look at the description of the Talents when the feature was unlocked.
"Hey, you. Are you going to keep standing there or what?" a voice sounded from behind, followed by a light push as a disgruntled Juno bypassed William and walked inside the school.
Ah, right. William gathered his thoughts and followed Juno to an assigned wing for the new students. The man looked at William angrily but didn't want to get caught fighting on the first day. William ignored Juno's hostility and inspected the Competition advertisements hanging from each wall with interest.
While William didn't care much for the school itself, new students couldn't apply for the Slightveil Cultivator's Induction Competition unless they had attended for at least a semester and their grades were good.
After hearing this information, William had spent the last six days searching for another way to enter the competition, but all paths were blocked off and restricted only to the most powerful Cultivation Families. It didn't matter that he was an Excellent, he was still a trash Ascender from the Mortal Realms, and the Slightwing Family couldn't guarantee his loyalty.
If William wanted to participate in the Competition, he would probably have to reveal multiple powerful abilities, at which point a target would simultaneously be placed on his back. He'd rather stick to the school route, which surprisingly didn't require any form of tuition or payment.
A wave of heat assaulted William's senses just as he and Juno rounded a corner. In front of him, Juno's eyebrows were singed off and his hair started to smolder, while a giant fireball flew past both of their faces.
"You bastard! How dare you sleep with her!" a young man screamed at another from the other side of the hall. William didn't recognize either of them, and the strength of the fireball was much higher than what the new students could achieve, so he guessed that this was a second or third-year.
Another giant fireball formed in the speaker's hands, thrown with great force as it whizzed past its target and expanded to three times its size. Finding himself on the other end of the fireball's path, Juno closed his eyes in preparation for death.
