Chapter 45 Something's Off

Chapter 45 Something's Off

Something's Off

"85,000,000." The Emperor said firmly and the Dwarves went silent with dark expressions.

The Elven Queen and the Vampires had withdrawn when the price hit 70,000,000 leaving the humans and the Dwarves to go at it. However, the Dwarves seemed to have reached their limit for a single item. And inevitably, the Emperor managed to claim the prize.

"Sold to the good sir over there!" Sinestra said with a wide grin. Had anyone else simply called the Human Emperor 'good sir', there would have been problems, but no one even batted an eye as the enthusiastic host as they knew he had every right to speak so casually.

There was a small round of applause when the item had successfully been claimed. A small show of respect to the wealth of the Emperor.

The Scythe was covered and taken off stage and a covered displayed box was rolled onto the stage and Christopher smiled behind his mask.

'Seems like my stuff is gonna be sold in quick succession. This should be fun.' As the thought landed, the cloth covering the box was removed, allowing everyone to see what was inside, and everyone's gazes became heated.

It was a set of dark blue scaled armour that appeared quite heavy. And it probably was.

It was a full set of heavy armour with a menacing looking helmet, a thick cuirass, cauldrons, Vambraces, and so on. It offered complete coverage and protection. Which was literal as the set had no gaps whatsoever, which seemed strange. Even the helmet was fully covered with no eye slots, but everyone knew that if the item managed to make it on that stage, then there was probably a reason it was so.

"This is another Purple ranked equipment. And like the previous item, it's been created using original runes. The name of this exquisite piece is the Guardian of Permafrost. It's an ice attributed armour set which offers full body coverage from all angles. And I'm sure many of you are wondering, how can it move without slots and notches? In the first place, how do you put it on? Well..." Sinestra snapped his fingers and the glass case covering armour vanished, leaving it standing.

Immediately he did so, a frigid air blew out and immediately swept through the hall as the temperature dropped considerably in just a moment.

'No one is wearing it or infusing it with Mana, this cold is simply from it existing. Remarkable.' Aisha thought with amazement as she stared at the armour. Despite being the daughter of a literal world superpower, she had only seen a handful of purple ranked equipment in her life, and all of them served to amaze her greatly.

However, the Scythe and this Armour seemed to be a grade above the ones she'd seen before, despite them all being within the same rank.

When Sinestra removed the case, one of the servants walked behind the armour and actually didn't stop to pause and just kept going. Then incredibly, their body seemed to phase right through the armour until their entire body was inside.

Immediately, the suit came to life as the one inside began to move.

Incredible, where the joints were meant to be bent with seemingly no resistance. And yet there were no creases or anything of the sort. The person inside moved with seemingly no restrictions, as if the lack of openings for mobility didn't matter.

"As you can see, the armour works perfectly fine without the generic designs for most armours as one can move freely and see as well, as there is an enchantment within the helmet that grants the user a perfect and even enhanced view of the world without any restrictions." The Being said.

He looked around and saw that everyone was the same. Not even the old monster Sinestra showed any signs of noticing something.

'Was I just imagining it then?' His mind spun.

He wanted to think so, but the more he tried to ignore it, the more uneasy he felt.

'Something is definitely off.' He concluded. Granted, he had no evidence To back up the sudden suspicion, but he was fairly sure for two reasons.

One, at his stage, it was very, very hard for him to imagine something out of thin air as his senses and mind had been conditioned multiple times. Not to mention that the Auction hall was filled with items that served to calm down one's mind. As such, it was unlikely that he had simply imagined what he felt.

Second, well, he had read enough novels to know that strong characters having a bad feeling usually never ended well.

'Besides, this is the first time my instincts feel off about something, so I should be right to at least some extent.' He concluded.

However, with all that said and done, he had absolutely nothing to go on. Forget investigating, he didn't even know what he sensed.

'Doesn't matter.' He thought and closed his eyes.

Immediately, the fierce bidding was drowned out and the exclamations that sounded when the next item appeared were thrown to the background.

Christopher exhaled slightly as in a moment, he attuned all his senses to the runes.

His Runic Insight wasn't limited to his sight, but there hadn't been a situation where he had to make use of his other senses to sense the runes and use them. Except now anyway.

He attuned his senses including his sixth sense to the runes and concentrated. Immediately, an image appeared in his mind.

A 3d image of the Runic structure of the entire island was projected in his mind. As such, he could see the runes that made up the body of Sinestra, the runes covering everyone in the hall, and in general, the runes that made up the world in this region of it.

However, that wasn't enough.

He extended his senses beyond the island, and kept going until he was about a few dozen kilometers away. And when he did, he smirked behind his mask. A mixture of amusement and annoyance when he saw what he saw.

'Alright, you bastards are really starting to get on my nerves.'
